I know it's piracy and stuff... but who doesn't do that? 

 

It was thanks to my father that I got into The Sims 2. I have some Original Copies and others were downloaded.

 

If I hadn't "hacked" my PS2 and got a copy of Kingdom Hearts I'd never met this series.

 

I know it's bad to not pay some stuff, but if a game is old enough or people can't really afford it, I don't see the harm of it.

 

Downloading music is what I do. I jsut go to youtube.mp3 and get it. Why would I pay 1€ to listen to a simple song that can be found anywhere?

 

I installed Skyrim, and that game is too protective because of STeam and stuff. Some mods don't work and when I asked for help on the Nexus forum, I got banned...

It boils down to this. It's hard to advocate and support piracy, considering it is stealing. Sometimes piracy is the only way to obtain something, if it is unavailable in your country or just impossible to get otherwise. Still, it is stealing, and stealing itself is wrong.

I don't particularly care about piracy, or those who do it, so yeah.

There's such a thing as importing.

"but who doesn't do that?" For starters, I don't.

 

By not buying games or music, you aren't supporting the creators, which could make them have to stop what they're doing. Thinking "Just once won't hurt" means that there are likely thousands, or even millions of others who think the same thing, which will hurt the creators even more. This is like asking "What's wrong with shoplifting?"

There are some places where importing isn't an option, whether that be due to laws, distance, or just other issues. But I'm not going to start saying that just because you can't get something, you should pirate. I'm just giving an example.

That's what I like about iTunes and Spotfy - it's legal and doesn't cost much.  However there is the issue of some songs not being available to buy.  This one sound track for a show I watch didn't put any of my favorite songs on it and instead contained a bunch of songs no one has heard of.  IMO if they really wanted to stop downloading, they'd release the songs we want to buy.

It's only piracy if you don't purchase it through a licensed digital distributor.Secondly piracy is akin to stealing a service. Like stiffing a barber (who is insane enough to do that) after a hair cut, sneaking into a concert, or movie theater. Stuff like that. While you might not always be costing anyone money, it is not paying someone for doing their job.Would you want to work, think you are going to get payed, and then not get payed? That's piracy to an extreme.That's why I avoid pirating, because if I actually desire what they offer, I want them to get something back for their time.
