105 years ago certain individuals began to manifest superpowers called NEXT. Ever since these beings have taken different paths on how to use their new powers. Some decided not to be bothered,living normal lives. Ohers have used their powers to live a life of crime,having an advantage. The most well-known route however,has been that a select few of them have become costumed superheroes in order to protect their cities using their powers. Taking advantage of this companies began to sponsor these heroes,and with this came the birth of HeroTV in the capital of NEXT activity,Sternbild City. With HeroTv,heroes fighting crime is a commercialized commodity,its helicopters and cameras following the heroes as they commit heroic acts across the city,from the smallest to the most dangerous. This turned NEXT from being hated and scared by normal people to actually be appraised by them. Prejudice towards NEXTs still exists,but it is not as prominent or violent as it once had been. Any NEXT criminals to be caught will be transferred to Abbas Prison,the only prison in the world with cells that are capable of nullifying NEXT powers.

 

Many heroes have come and gone to be remembered forever within the HeroTv hall of fame. These include the iconic Mr.Legend,the first ever hero duo Tiger and Barnaby,and many others. But with heroes many villains have remained as part of Sternbild’s City history,such as infamous Lunatic,the treacherous Maverik,and the powerful Jake Martinez.

 

With new generations of heroes protecting Sternbild City,new generations of villains are sure to appear as well. Either a graduate from the NEXT Academy,found by a sponsor on the streets,or training for revenge,anything is possible within this city.

 

Things to know:

 

NEXT powers: When activated,NEXT powers generally surround the user with a blue glowing outline and turn the user’s eyes a bright blue as well. These abilities can vary from useful to not exactly useful (Such as super sweat),and can vary from elemental-based powers (ice,fire,etc.),Offense-based powers (Hundred Power,Diamond body,etc.),Defense-based powers (Barriers,impenetrable skin,etc.),and even mental-based powers (telekinesis,memory implantation,etc.)

 

Special cases of NEXT powers: There are two special cases of NEXT powers that have no explication,these are NEXT having two powers,and NEXT losing their powers, both of these being extremely rare.

 

A NEXT having two powers is rare and the only known NEXT recorded in history to have two powers was Jake Martinez. (Mind reading and Barriers)

 

A NEXT losing their powers is just as rare,and there are only two NEXT recorded in history that this has happened to them. (Mr.Legend and Wild Tiger) This will show when the NEXT notices that its powers become weaker,or don’t last as much as they should. The powers decrease and decrease until they disappears completely.

 

Sponsors: Most if not all heroes have sponsors,companies that will pay them if they are willing to promote their brand or products. They do this by having the brand names on somewhere in the hero’s costume,where the people can see it from time to time. Considering the Heroes are also treated as celebrities around the city,they make them do commercials,interviews,etc. The sponsors do know the true identity of the heroes that work of them at times. They’re the employers after all.

 

Heroes & Costumes: With sponsors come good costumes to fight evil in. Usually fit to please the eye and fit the hero’s personality and power,along with a catchy hero name. Heroes do prefer at times to keep their identity secret from the public to protect themselves and their families. The only known hero to have presented his true face to the public to know is Barnaby. Usually the hero’s costumes include using contacts to change eye color,using wigs or hair spray as well,to make the hero appearance completely different from their human one.

 

 

Sternbild City: Based off New York City,Sternbild is built in a three-tier style. The Bronze layer (bottom),the silver layer (middle),and the Gold layer (top). The higher the layer, the more opulent the lifestyle. Living accommodations are wide and varied, ranging from apartment complexes to traditional Japanese-style houses. In the center of the city is the Justice Tower, which serves as headquarters for the city's heroes.

Bio: Yuri was born in a big city across the world in a successful family. He is the youngest out of triplets. The middle triplet died due to complications,but its personality never exactly left. Yuri and his big sister grew up together,but they had very different personalities. While the sister was outgoing,he was more reserved to himself,and easily scared. As he grew up he developed an alternate personality,which he claimed for it to be their brother which never left. Of course the family just ignored it as childish nonsense. On their 10th birthday Yuri surprised everyone when he was able to change the color of the flames on the birthday cake. However the power did grow stronger than he could handle,and a fire occurred. No one got hurt,but the family home was burnt down. It was then that the parents were confronted with the reality that their youngest son was a NEXT. So after that night they took Yuri to a huge catholic school to stay for the day,promising they would come back later. They never came back for him. Years later he was visited by a woman that had heard rumors of a rainbow child within the catholic orphanage school. She took him to Sternbild City where she signed him up in the NEXT academy. After graduating she quickly made Yuri a hero for her company. He has been a hero for a year now,and has it harder than he makes it appear at times. 

Curious facts?: Yuri has a multi-personality disorder,however the other personality is what he says is his older brother that never really left,to which he calls Mad Hatter. They change places when it comes time to do the dirty jobs.

He hates vegetables.

"What the hell was that!!!" Tristan yelled, hearing the gunshot. "Get cameras over there! Now! I want to see If-"

 

Shotaro was long gone  from the scene when the cameras arrived. but he made sure they'd see the body...

 

Tristan saw the body... "Cut!Cut!" he screamed to the cameras, as they frantically tried to censor the blood.

 

Sho looked at Hatter."That was Great work, man! You control fire right? I'm new to my next powers... could you... teach me?" He hated the way that sounded.... like he was some kind of girl in an anime.... the suit didn't help to debunk that image either...

David rewinded the image to the body dead body. He made a few digital notes and added it to the image. This vigilante's perseverance was to be admired, even if his methods were dangerous. David had to admit that it was certainly a simple solution, but the police and producers didn't much like simple solutions like that.

Adding the image with the notes on a growing file for that vigilante, David went back to the present to see what the other heroes were doing.

 

Sam put away her radio and activated her ability. She glowed blue for a moment as her skin turned into a dark metal before dropping down into the alley where the gun shot gap came from. She landed with the sound of cracking pavement, her own gun raised. She gritted her teeth to see that all that was there was the victim and not the perp.

Her eyes narrowed as she realized that the corpse was one of the robbers.

"But who killed him?" She thought.

She quickly began looking around the alley for spent brass from the killer's weapon.

An undisguised Shotaro went back to the scene. "OH MY GOD!!"  he yelled, pointing at Sam. "MURDERER, MURDERER!!!!"

Sam rolled her eyes.

"Shut up and call the cops." She ordered. "I'm not the one that did this, ask the camera crew filming us when they get down here."

Putting away her pistol, Sam crouched to try to find a bullet shell left behind by the attacker, willing her heart to slow down. She clearly saw the camera looking down the alley before she entered, which means they saw the body before she got there. Her weapon was clean, and she hadn't fired it since last week on the fire ping range.

"And don't touch anything." She barked at the civilian as she carefully continued her search.

"O...Ok..." Shotaro called the police... "Um...Are you a hero? I haven't seen you on tv..." he looked at her search. Like Sherlock, she was...

Megumi was standing on the sidewalk, staring at a small television through the glass window of an electronics store. On the television, she could see a live news report going on about some robbery. She noticed some well known NEXT heroes on the report along with some newbies, not that that was a surprise to her. Megumi raised an eyebrow as he heard some commotion coming from down the street. She shouldn't be able to hear anything from the television since the volume was on low. "...Wait a second." she looked around to see a small crowd in the distance. Megumi looked back to the TV to see that there was a quick sight of a dead body sitting in the alleyway before a few other people from the news crew started blocking the camera. "So there's already a murder..." she muttered to herself as began to make her way past the multiple people walking in the opposite direction on the sidewalk. It didn't hurt to check it out, right? As long as she didn't have to use to NEXT abilities, she would be fine. 

"Hold it." Saidarin calmly said while placing his hand on her shoulder. "You're not going anywhere."

 

Crap, you're not going anywhere? Not the best words to use.

 

He realized he was right, as the girl tensed up further.

 

"I mean, it's not safe, and uh... you have, beautiful blue eyes."

 

Maybe this will at least make her laugh and stick around a bit. It really isn't safe for her to go right now.

Megumi paused as she felt a hand come across on her shoulder. Her body tensed up for a bit before she quickly calmed down. There was nothing to panic about, she could easily knock the person out. She really wasn't in the mood for anybody hitting on her or some crap like that anyways. Megumi looked back over her shoulder with a faint glare. "Excuse me?" She said before slapping his hand off her and fulling turning around to get a better look at the stranger. "You think I'm not are of that? I can take care of myself. Besides, who are you to approach me like this out of nowhere?" She abruptly stopped after she said that. Blue eyes? Did he notice that she was a NEXT as well? Impossible, she could have sworn that she didn't activate her powers, unless it was just a lucky guess. Either way, Megumi showed no sudden emotions and stared at the man for an answer. "Well?"

Saidarin just smiled. "So what's your name? You look slightly familiar."

 

I can't give away what I know just yet, even if it may help her now. It will hurt her in the long run.

She simply frowned at him. First he approached her in such a weird way and now this? If nobody was around, she would have probably punched him in the stomach or something. "None of your business." Megumi said a bit too harshly as her brows furrowed before looking back to see that the crowd was still there. Whatever was happening stll hasn't faded out yet, which was still. "Now if you would excuse me, I'll be going now." she said before turning around and sliding her hands back into her pockets before beginning to walk off.

"Sho-I mean,Freezer Burn,are you alright?! What was that shot?!"Mad Hatter asked,but before he could receive an answer he was surrounded by the press,and Sho had walked away,most likely to change out of his costume. "Wait-"But before Mad Hatter could move,a microphone was stuffed into his face. 

 

"Mad Hatter,a dead body has been reported! Do you think your flames have anything to do with it?"The reporter asked. Mad Hatter stared in disbelief. 

 

"D-Dead body? No,It can't be."Mad Hatter muttered,then he thought for a second. "(The gunshot...but who and why?)" Mad Hatter shook his head and cleared his throat. "No,I assure you I did nothing with my flames that could of caused his death,we heroes are forbidden from killing anyone."Mad Hatter said. 

 

"Do you think one of the heroes could've done it?"Another reporter asked. Mad Hatter's eyes narrowed in slight anger. 

 

"No. None of the heroes would even think of killing anyone!"Mad Hatter yelled as he gritted his teeth. If there was one thing that angered him,it was the fact that when something really bad happened,it was always blamed on the heroes. He pushed the reporters out of the way as he walked over to KuroNeko. "Are you alright,KuroNeko?"Mad Hatter asked. He then glanced around. "You didn't happen to see where Freezer Burn went? I never got to ask him if he was alright..."Mad Hatter muttered. 

(Shotaro is not Sho.... )

"I'm right here... " Sho said. "I asked you a question not a moment ago..." He sighed. Great, he thought.... I'm that unpopular...

(oh crap sorry)

 

Mad Hatter turned to Freezer Burn. 

 

"There you were."Mad Hatter said. Maybe it was just his clumsiness that had him not notice his partner. "Teach you?"Mad Hatter asked. This was a first to him. If anything he was the one asking people to teach him. Mad Hatter smiled. "No need for fomalities then,of course I'll help you control your NEXT powers! Friends are friends,right?"Mad Hatter asked. He then got closer and whispered to Freezer Burn's ear. "However depending on if we're practicing with or without our costumes on,it will depend if you're being taught by me or by my brother Yuri,considering we share the same body and all."Mad Hatter said with a smile as he chuckled. "So don't be surprised if we change personalities from time to time."Mad Hatter said as he tipped his hat. "On a serious note..." He got his fingers to the com on his ear. "Tristan. I heard there was a body,is it true?"Mad Hatter asked. There was a long while since there would be a body when heroes were on the scene. 

"Mm." Yu murmured. He was in an alleyway, covered by shadows and leaning against a wall. Not too far from his location, Saidarin and Megumi were having their chat. Yu, for the most part, had been somewhat tailing Saidarin. And as of now, was doing a rather well-off job of it.

Certainly a suspicious character. Yu thought, listening in one their conversation. He had only recently stopped, so he didn't know much behind why Saidarin had chosen to speak with a random female, but to Yu, it only added to the complexity.

"Lot's of odd things going on.." Yu then murmured, "Getting stranger and stranger by the moment."

 

(Hopefully this is an okay way to start things off.)

"Brother?" Sho said, "You have family in this business? How does that feel?"

 

"Yup..." Tristan said. "Checking the scene now..." The cameras zoomed over. "Hey, I got a bonus job… two people are at the crime scene... Cops have been called... See what they know..." The police were sometimes stubborn dicks with info...

KuroNeko sighed, dropping down the robber.

"I am fine, thank you." She said, then looking around.

"Nope. I have no idea where Freezer Burn went...." She muttered.

The Freezer FINALLY spoke up. Both the Hatter and Kuro were completely blind, weren't they?

"Freezer! May I help as well? It's really boring training by myself, maybe helping someone would be for the best!" She exclaimed.

She wanted to know her answer....and rather fast. A crime has been committed. A real one. The Heroes would have to step in.

"Sure!" Sho said. "But first, let's do what Tristan says..." He started to walk down the alley.

Yu blinked. He could hear it--someone was walking down the alleyway. The alleyway he was in.

"Damn." He muttered, looking around. There was no escape from this. Either he would become detected from this newcomer, or have to run out and be found by the person he had been tailing. Yu swallowed, unsure of what to do. He growled, clenching his fist as he let out a breath. He would remain here, then. Let the person walk past while Yu looked as nonchalant as possible.

Sho walked down the alley until he saw the two observers. "hey!" He said. "What are you two doing?"

 

Shotaro ran away in fear.

 

That probably was too accusatory.... Sho thought.

Mad Hatter smiled. 

 

"Well considering we share the same body it doesnt affect it as much as it should. But...I guess its a bit difficult when it comes to decide who has to take the blame for who."Mad Hatter said as he followed Freezer Burn down the alley and there were already certain people there investigating. They didn't seem like cops,but they didn't seem dangerous either. However Mad Hatter had to ask the question either way. "Hey,hold it right there."Mad Hatter said. "Um,do any of you know who killed the victim?"Mad Hatter asked as he scratched the back of his head. He glanced around at the body. A single gunshot to the head. There were no traces,the killer could have easily ran away without a bother in the world. "This is a first I've seen,of someone killing a running away bandit,especially in the middle of a broadcast."Mad Hatter muttered as he got his hands tp his hips. "What do you think,bro?" Mad Hatter's eyes suddenly softened and turned red. "How am I suppoused to know? It could be anyone in this three layer city. Unless it was someone who had a bone to pick." His eyes changed back to blue. "There certainly has to be something else in your mind about this?" Mad Hatter kept arguing with his brother,or better to say alter-ego. 

"Umm..." Said Sho. "What are you doing, hatter?" He said, touching his shoulder.

Mad Hatter turned to Sho and chuckled a bit. "Er sorry,remember when I told you I had a brother? I do,but we share the same body. We are alter egos of each other."Mad Hatter said. He then turned back at the body and walked up to it,keeping close eye on the other people that had arrived. He got a finger to the com in his ear. "Tristan there's more than just heroes here."Mad Hatter muttered. He smiled a bit at the rest of the people there. "Well we can all agree that we are here on the basis that a murder has happened. More than likely all of us heard the gun shot. But there doesn't seem to be any evidence around so I will have to take the aspect that all of you could be the murderer."Mad Hatter said with a smile as he got his hands behind his back. "Unless you can offer proof,I think the police would like to take all of you guys for questioning."Mad Hatter said. His eyes suddenly changed red. "You can't simply take them and hand them to the police,we are suppouse to capture culprits on acts not suspicions." His eyes changed back to blue. "Shut up you! This is my part of the job not yours!"

"Hat!" Sho said. "One got away, let's go!" He started to run after Shotaro.

It was quite some time, moving around people, but she finally made it to the alleyway. She was on the end opposite from the crowd of news reporters and supports. Megumi peeked in to see multiple of other people were what appeared to be examining the scene, and they didn't look like average civilians either. Some of them she recognized, the NEXT heroes of course, but the other few were complete strangers to her. She cocked her head to the side slightly before taking a step in. Right then somebody ran past her. Confused, she turned back to see that the person that just passed by was being chased by somebody. Perhaps one of the criminals?

Sam had turned to ask the civi who was calling the cops a question but some NEXT Heroes showed and yelled. The guy looked to have panicked and ran for it.

"Real smooth." Sam growled to herself.

There was several reasons why the civi would have run, but the paranoid part of her mind her father had installed over the years told her it was guilt. The most obvious crime was the dead body still hanging around.

Figuring who ever went after the civi was faster and less likely to look suspicious running from a crime seen then her, Sam continued in her search for clues.

"I'm guessing you got the others?" She asked over her shoulder, addressing anyone who stuck around.
