Sonic Unleashed released on the PlayStation Store

Posted

SEGA have released the PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed for digital download on the PlayStation Store. And while they're charging a rip-off, it's good and strange to see an old PS3 game released digitally. Hopefully other games from 2006-2010 are released digitally in the future.

But why not on the Vita too? I NEED to play that game while I travel the world one day!

It's a Ps3 game that was made waaaaaaaaaaaaay before the release of the Ps Vita

So? Can't that thing play some PS3 games digitally?

No,only games that have both a Ps3 and a Vita version like Ps All Stars

If you downloaded it from the PS Store it'll only work on your Ps3

They'd have to port it. And I don't think it was that popular to deem it port worthy.

That game is underrated way too often. Colors was okay, but it was nowhere near as polished or as epic as Unleashed.

I see. I've never played it since I can never get around to finishing Sonic games but I heard it was short and horrible.

I already bought a hardcopy for the PS3 a long time ago. I don't have a reason to get a digital version.

Colors was an okay and fun experience. It doesn't have as complex of a storyline as other games, so take that for what you will. The gameplay is still 3D/2D, but it seems to have a little more of a bias towards the 2D. The Color Powers are actually rather nice and enhance the gameplay rather than interrupt it. There aren't really any hub worlds though, it's just nothing but world maps. And it's one of the first games to feature the new voice cast (well, for Sonic and Tails anyway), which is both interesting, entertaining, and cringe worthy at various moments. They got the writers for Happy Tree Friends to write the story for this game, so it's much more focused on comedy rather than drama, again, take that for what you will. While there are a few funny scenes with Sonic and Tails, the only consistently funny scenes are with Doctor Eggman and his two new robot lackeys/comic relief Orbot and Cubot. Otherwise, most of the story is just Sonic and Tails talking to each other with awkward witty banter that usually results in hit-and-miss comedy, as I only found a few lines from their scenes funny, which is quite a shame, as you focus on them 80% of the time. The game also marked the return of Super Sonic as a gameplay style rather than a final boss. Overall it's a decent game, but it's definitely got a lot of rough edges to it, and it's a bit farther from perfect than Unleashed was. Most of the gameplay kind of feels like a watered down version of Unleashed, which can feel kind of awkward at times, and again, the humor is unbearable about 50% of the time, which is a HUGE problem when your story is supposed to be a comedic and lighthearted adventure. It's an okay and fun game, but I feel that it gets WAY too much praise from everyone. Sonic Unleashed really pioneered a lot more than Colors did, and yet just because of the Werehog mechanic, everyone would rather praise Colors as the start of Sonic finally picking up his feet. How fitting that the same spirit for Sonic Colors brought us the polarizing disappointment of Sonic Lost World. I hope that this gives everyone some perspective.
