It's my belief that signatures should be removed altogether. You know, focus should be given to the content of posts, rather than the contents of one's signature. However, I realize removing signatures would upset a lot of people.

So, as a compromise, does anyone mind if I disable signatures from being seen by default? Users would have the option to go to their "Control Panel" and enable signatures. What do you think?

Yeah i think you should disable Sigs being seen by Default.

wouldn't it be the same as not having a sig altogether? not quite understanding, lol.

but anyway, i like that idea. you're pretty much right when you say focus should be given on posts...

i agree.

No they wouldn't Jeny, as people could easily go into the User CP and Enable them.

is there a box already you can uncheck for seeing signatures? if not, you could have that checked by default and if people are really annoyed with sigs they can go get that box.

imagine all the threads about "HOW DU I C MAI SGNATURR?" if you do it by default. =/

Pin a Thread explaining how?

about 95% of the people on this site never read those threads. same with the rules, lol.

why do you think so many people double post/spam/whatever? /:

Miss Understanding, unsure etc.

It's not really about removing signatures because they annoy people. It's more forcing people to focus on the quality and content of posts, rather than signatures, while still giving them the option to view with signatures if they absolutely can't live without it.

But I'm not gonna do this unless you all agree, I want everyone's input. I'll make a poll.

Oh btw, this would also mean signatures can't be seen by guests.

i just dont think it'd help quality of posts at all. if they want to focus on post quality, they will. if they dont want to, they wont. an image at the bottom of the post wont distract them so bad that they make a shitty post. >:

I don't think signatures should be disabled, even by default. People don't, or at least, shouldn't, go through every comment of every post to see who has the coolest signature. People go through to find answers to questions, or to talk about something. Signatures don't affect the quality of a post, that's up to the poster and reader. I personally don't pay all that much attention to signatures, but I do enjoy looking at them. That doesn't mean that I disregard what that person may have said.

So in summary, I think they should stay enabled.

Agreed

I think you guys forget, that you can enable them if you want them in your CP.

So all takes is a click to enable them. In this case everyone who wants them haves them and those who don't, don't have them.

i was thinking of having sigs almost like custom user titles, u have to earn them(like my custom user title im not sure how i got it)

i dont think thatd be fair tho =/

I agree with Cella. >.>

ok just a thought

Yeah, then we'll have numerous amounts of members telling us to hand them the feature to enable signatures if they were like the Custom User Titles; that would just create more drama and look at a mass amount of requests for it and people making threads either bashing the rules and etc.

A signature/avatar is a unique asset to each member; it gives them a chance to show their individuality on a forum and give them more freedom to express themselves or their style. Though, signatures does not increase or decrease the post quality, some members abuse that and skip to the next post and reply to threads with unrelated posts like, "Nice sig!" and etc. when they see something they like.

I don't really believe in the disabling signature feature, but it does give more freedom for people to choose to look at signatures or not. It's sort of a Win/Win situation. Those who do not want it, can go and disable the images and those who do can choose also. Just make it fair to where it benefits both, but don't disable it for guests because what if they are graphic artists? They wouldn't be able to see the avatars or signatures and that may drive new members away.

Everyone is saying "those who don't want it can go and disable it". Well, what's wrong with "those who do want it can go and enable it"?

I agree completely DChiuch, people go to change their signature already why not just click enable its not that hard.

It would be better if by Default they were not enabled. A new User comes along and wants to set up their very own sig, why not take the time to tick a box to enable them.

By default, it should be disabled, since the newcomers are mostly looking for KH news and what not, and plus the avatars are still there as nice little images next to the posts and some people may not want tons of images loading at once while they are reading info/hot discussions. If they are interested in viewing others' creations/images then they can enable it when they register if they want, but I think you should add something explaining like "How to View Signatures" or "Enable/Disable Signature" for newcomers (and current members) of how they can control this feature.

And on this thread you are talking about Cricket, it could explain other things like how to get Custom Titles. And other stuff.

The thing is, disabling the Signatures by default will have no impact on the quality of the posts. Having a picture appear at the bottom of your comment won't, or shouldn't, distract someone from what's being said. If someone is looking for answers for a question, they'll look at the comments, because I don't think that having a picture, or a small pivot, or a funny line is REALLY too distracting. Plus, let's face it, a good portion of people ARE going to want them enabled, and it will be less of a hassle to keep them enabled then have to disable them for newcomers and then tell them how to enable them (and despite this, a bajillion people will make threads asking how to enable them).

baylaust you said they dont distract people from the comments. Well they do yours does a lot those ones do a lot, cos there are moving pictures in it.

Al though it may look cool it distracts the reader from the post.

yeah the moving ones r too destracting, i just like looking at all the good pictures ppl have on thier sigs

i agree, the moving ones do bug me (sorage, they rule, but are annoying, no offence :P)

i think they should still be enabled by default though, because if someone doesn't like them they can easily just turn them off.

ad generally people enjoy sigs (although don't go onto threads just for them...), and theres not really much point in disabling them
