Square Enix Japan are releasing the NES version of FINAL FANTASY III on the Nintendo eShop for 3DS today (April 23). This marks the first time the 2D version is playable on a handheld console.
With FINAL FANTASY I-VI & Mystic Quest on the Wii U virtual console & I-III on the 3DS virtual console it means Square Enix Japan are done with Wii U virtual console releases for FINAL FANTASY and for the time being, 3DS.
There's hope SNES games will come to the 3DS eShop in the future, Square Enix Japan would likely release them on it too.
With Square Enix Japan finishing them today, Square Enix North America & Europe will hopefully follow them and release them soon as well.
