This happens to be a reference to one of my favorite games ever.

 

Boktai!  It's not just a random thing.  In MGS4 you can get the solar gun from Boktai, which can only be recharged by sunlight.

Except this is in english, so instead of saying "Taiyoh" he says "Sunlight."

 

And just so you know, the crossover went both ways. Solid Snake is a guest character in the Boktai games.
