How does this mean that they'll announce a new handheld? A patent doesn't instantly mean a new console will be announced this soon.

they just did

they just did

Er... No, they didn't announce anything.

Also, I didn't even hear about this patent on a dedicated Nintendo news site I check almost DAILY. Pretty sure I would've heard it on there if they were announcing a new handheld.

Just for your information, @Keyblade master26, if they released a new console now, especially one that stupidly-contrived, they would loose money. I can guarantee that. Almost no one will want a console like that, and thus would cause them to loose money, and they're already loosing money from the WiiU, even if it is a great system... anyway, patents on things literally mean nothing other than someone else can't use that exact idea themselves unless they're Nintendo. It really doesn't matter if you patent something, it only means as I said. The probability of a new console at E3 is astronomical low, and then there is always the case of "don't believe everything you hear on the Internet that is stated as fact.". Only the gullible just take something like this and say "there is a new console coming no matter how bad for the company it would be for them to make a new one!", I'm sorry, but it's the truth. Also

Generally, dedicated fan sites are far more reliable than some people on Youtube. It's like believing everything IGN has to say on something that isn't a big ticket game like Titanfall. Sure, it's possible they know something, but it's more likely fiction for views than fact.

Ah, the classic taunt that always starts off a hailstorm of people telling you you're wrong. I think I'm just going to go stand over....here, and enjoy the show with my tasty bucket of popcorn. And yes, the bucket itself it delicious, not the popcorn. It is simply there for decoration.  :P

I know how that feels. They could at least tell him that he was wrong nicely.

You see, the thing is, he's being incredibly immature and trying to act like we're idiots for being "wrong." And he won't quit bothering us about it. Soo, yeah, we're beyond that point.

Dude, that is just a patent. We have seen alot of unused Nintendo patents, and this is just one of them. They even had a weird patent, for some kind of light projector thingy that would connect to the Wii, and it never came out to the market. This patent, also existed since October, it simply was discovered now, and if it comes to the market, it would be that "video player" that they trademarked in Korea. In other words, nothing special.

Also, that whole "new nintendo console" thing, has been in the source code, since E3 2012, and did they present a new console at E3 2012 or E3 2013? I don't think so. The site also says "wii at E3", and why would the Wii be at E3, the console is already dead. If they reveal something, aside from the QoL platform, it would be a 3DS redesign, since the console already has a year full of games, and already have 1-2 games for next year, so they are not going to kill all that by presenting a new handheld, and the Wii U is not going to be replaced only 11 days after they release their biggest game with a bundle, it would just be stupid, just like the decisions SEGA did, in its first party days.

Also, Nintendo said last year, that they didn't had a live conference, since they didn't have new hardware to show, this year they also are not having a live conference, and will only have that prerecorded "Nintendo Digital Event", in other words, there is no new important hardware to show, aside from a possible 3DS redesign and/or the QoL platform.

Aaaand it looks like this thread has outlived its usefulness.  Since we're not going in a productive direction and are arguing more than discussing, I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread.  This thread is entirely opinion-based, and everyone is allowed to make their own assumptions and speculation on future releases.  They are neither right nor wrong, and as such they shouldn't be called names or ridiculed for their personal opinion.
