For me, it's the Romeo & Juliet film from 1996 that Leonardo DiCaprio was in.
I was given the unfortunate circumstances of having to watch it twice in English class. It is HORRIBLE.
First off, the concept of putting it in a modern setting had GREAT potential, and they crapped on it.
Second, the dialogue is delivered TERRIBLY. The acting is terrible, and the old Shakespeare-era language being used the way it was just sounded horrific.
Third, the acting is just crappy in general. The only one who did a decent job was the guy that played Frair Laurence.
Fourth, The graphics and such were just completely unpleasant to the eyes.
Also, since when the hell was Mercutio black? Isn't he Romeo's cousin? Wouldn't that mean Romeo was at least part black?
And when was it said that the Nurse was Jewish?
It was overall total crap. The Nostalgia Critic just needs to rip it to shreds.
They could have done it MUCH better. Hell, I came up with a good concept for a "modern" R&J film, and I'm a teenager and not a Hollywood movie producer.
So, Romeo and Juliet never had kids, since, well, they died. Hundreds of years have passed, and both the Capulets and the Montagues continued their family into several generations, without a last name ever changing, so the last names are still out there. Both families at one point during the 1900s moved to the United States. Coincidentally, the most recent offpsrings from both families are named Romeo and Juliet (respectively, just to give it a twist). At some point along the line, the families began their feud once again.
Even more coincidentally, both of them end up going to the same school. Upon meeting one another, they develop mutual crushes. Since neither one tells the other, they end up in a friendship. Upon the families finding out, they are enraged. Both of them continue their friendship secretly, but it ends up not lasting long, since Juliet and Romeo's cousins both go to the same school and rat on them.
So, Romeo gets ninja training from the equivalent of Frair Laurence, the martial arts-expert PE teacher at the school, played by Jackie Chan, so he can sneak into Juliet's room and visit her
Anyway, back to seriousness. Because they now have the internets, they communicate with each other still via various sources like AIM and Facebook. They eventually admit to eachother about their crush, and they keep trying to sneak off to meet each other.
It doesn't last long. They're found out once more, and know they face extreme punishment. So, since they're both about 16 or 17 and can drive, they get some money and flee together to Canada. Both families then report their children missing, and a massive search begins, ending up causing Amber Alerts for them to show up all over the United States.
They end up getting enough money over time to live there together and remain at peace, but then someone recognizes them from images posted as a result of the search, and contacts police.
For a while, they are forced to be separated and both are kept at high watch. Suicide is attempted, Romeo becomes emo, (seriousness, not a joking thing like the ninja training) so on, so forth. Over time, the families begin to grow tired of the constant fighting and fear on both ends, and the realization of how much both mutually love each other and how being separated could cause them to inflict self-harm and possibly suicide (which Romeo would attempt for dramatic effect), they come to an agreement and choose to end the feud once more, allowing Romeo and Juliet to be together.
And that's how it would end. There'd be fighting. Some characters would die, but not R and J.
As for a cast, the only roles I can really think of are Fran Drescher as the Nurse (come on, it'd be perfect), Nathan Kress as Tybalt, and Jane Kaczmarek as Lady Montague or Lady Capulet (in this case, they'd be called Mrs. Montague or Mrs. Capulet), and Joe Pesci as Mr. Capulet. I'd possibly cast Samuel Jackson as the equivalent of Frair Laurence (Who I'd probably make a teacher at the school instead of a Frair), just because he's so awesome
...well crap, I never expected my idea to end up so long.
I could just write a script and send it to Paramount or something.
In your opinion, what is it?
