i remember that it was stated that mega evolution was something exclusive to the kalos region. that said, i dont think there will be mega evolutions in other regios unless someone from kalos decides to mass produce mega stones and mega rings and sell them to other regions. i dont think that that is likely at all tho. if there are no mega evolutions, then there is nothing to explain groudon and kyogre's new apperences (that were confirmed to be new"ish" pokemon). i think, in the post game of omega ruby and alpha sapphire, omega evolutions and alpha evolutions will be introduced. each one to their respective game. and each one functioning a little bit differently. both similar to mega evolutions, but all 3 being a little bit different. this just pure speculation tho. what are your thoughts?

Well the official timeline is something like this.

Gen I/III -Three years later> Gen II/IV - a few years later> Gen V - two years later> Gen V.2 (B/W2)/Gen VI. Still I don't see why in post game they can't say that Brandon/May was one of the fist people (along with Red/Leaf) to make it work. But I do hope they make it so that your Pokemon has to have max affection before a Mega Stone will work. I man what was teh point of giving away a special Blaziken at launch then remaking the generation it came from if Swampert and Sceptile do'n get Megas?

 

As for the box-art I don't think those are Groudon's/Kyogre's Megas (at least I hope not) and just a awakened Forme because the change isn't drastic enough to look like an Evolution

Maybe the Alpha/Omega evolutions are the result of Team Magma/Aqua failing to fuse Rayquaza with Groudon/Kyogre, it happened in Black and White 2, so maybe they can reuse the idea.

I think their new forms have to be something you activate with those orbs Team Magma and Aqua were after for. It might increase their power. Or even something like Virus Groudon (which looks a bit different, they might rehash it, anime is not usually canon to the game).

Well on the anime, the leaders used it to awaken and become the hosts of the orbs iirc. Except it made Archie nuts while I have no clue what was Pikachu trying to do.

Well, blaziken and and mewtwo were already overpowered and they received mega evolutions. Mega evolution is purely a fan service. I personally hope that they ban all megas in competitive play and also have a branch with it allowed. Seriously, that would solve all the problems with mega evolution. I like it, but it's over powered.

Mawile,Heracross,Manetric,Gardevoir,Charizard....etc people were barely using those before if not at all,now look at how many people have Mawile and Gardevoir?it made competitive battling more fun and diverse instead of meeting the same exact team set with everyone

 

Mega Charizard X&Y made Charizard useful again after stealth Rock almost killed it for three generations.

 

Mega evolutions actually solved many problems with competitive battling and banning Megas will make things worse not better

You guys forget Mega evolutions take up a item slot+some get actually downgraded rather than a upgrade.

 

Choice scarf Kyogre can go bye-bye if it turns out it needs an item slapped on for the evolution/forme.

Well they're banned to Ubers in case you mean smogon tiers as Ubers are only for overpowered legendariesNon-Legendaries.And in case you mean VGC tiers well all mascot legendaries,Mewtwo and some event legendaries like Deoxys are banned from tournaments

Is there a place where I can see a ban list to the pokemon who are banned in VGC? I know how to find the smogon tiers and that's what I've went by for the longest time but I've never found an official ban list for VGC

BTW, I saw the box cover again and it seems like my theory could be true! The glowing lines on Groudon and Kyogre are yellow just like the ones on Rayquaza! Seems the most possible for me, but this is just speculation...
