I'd stick with LED or LCD Tvs. Sharp, LG, Sony and Samsung are the usual brands I'd be gunning for. The other specs are irrelevant but try aiming for the higher the Hz, 1080p resolutions so it's future proof for a while.

Get a Panasonic LED LCD TV with 3 or 4 HDMI ports.

You mention LCD and talk about future proof. Lol. LCD is old.

It's the mainline TVs for now. Plasma is old and LED is newer, but may be a bit expensive.

LCD isn't the mainline. LOL. LCD's has been around for like ten years. LED LCD is the mainline.

In terms of specs, get a tv size depending on size of your room. I opt for 40in or 46in for standard bedroom size for gaming. If It's living room, 46in or higher.

There are two types of Refresh rates, 60hz, and 120hz. Don't listen to what other manufacturers say about 240hz, or 480 or whatever, because it's a gimmick, it is always 120hz. 60hz is standard, that is what most tv's we have nowadays are running on. 120hz makes you feel like you are actually seeing what is going on. For example, if you watch Iron Man 1's opening scene in 120hz, you can see that it looks like it's being filmed for real, and it's very HQ. This is really good for video games as well. I saw someone play Assassin's Creed 1 on 120hz, and was blown away.

Here's the article to back up my claim on Refresh Rates: http://www.cnet.com/news/fake-refresh-rates-is-your-tv-really-120hz/

TV brands: Samsung is pretty much the ringleader of TV's, and LG is Samsung's competition. It's up to you to figure where you align yourself though.

For resolution, I say 1080p is enough to do you good. I would stay away from the 4K resolution because even though it is grotesque, it's too expensive for a regular consumer. 4K is more for the rich man and upper class. However, as soon as the even higher resolution is introduced in the future, our houses will have 4K. So just get 1080p.

Also, what kind of gaming console you have? Since you have a gaming console, I don't see a need for Smart TV's. So it's best to get just the TV.

LED is the mainline as Sora said, but it is actually LCD, but they add backlight to it to make the screen be more picture perfect. I recommend LED for bright, vivid display, LCD is pretty old, and Plasma is almost ready to unplug the lifeline.

My advice is to go to Bestbuy, or whatever store that sells TV's (Walmart, Target, Hhgregg, Sears), and compare tv's very carefully. That means look at the model numbers carefully and take notes. You should take consideration of the budget you have.

After determining the TV you want, go on Amazon and see how much it is on the website, sometimes you can find better price choices than retail price.

IDK, I never heard of it, I stopped searching for TV's when my parents couldn't get me one for Christmas (but i received a Guitar amp and some games, so that's good for me). But have you actually seen the TV, and are pleased with it? That's what you should think about.

I have a Samsung LED 1080p that I bought a few years ago.  It's a really terrific TV, though the sound isn't the greatest.  I would recommend it, especially since it's a good quality TV and is reasonably priced.
