Nothing new to me. The Hyperdimension Neptunia series is extremely well-known for this. I mean, the first 3 games are all about the console war. Neptune represents the console Sega never brought to life (her world being Planeptune). Noire represents Playstation (Lastation). Vert represents Xbox (Leanbox). Blanc represents Wii (Lowee). They also have company characters like IF, Compa, Nisa, Gust, Cyber Connect 2, etc.  Then you've got Nepgear (Gamegear), Rom and Ram, Uni.

Their overall world is called Gameindustri.

I've actually never played a Hyperdimension Neptunia game before. What game is a good one to start at?

I'd start with Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2. It's the second one. The first one held less freedom in it and could be quite boring from time to time. I dun exactly recommend buying them unless you know you'll like it (so check it out from a rental service or watch some gameplay). Nisa games normally aren't in high regards, but they get the job done.  They're usually extremely perverted, especially when it comes to Hyperdimension Neptunia. For me, I love that even if they're just sexualized characters, they do have major personalities so you can actually relate to a personality type. For starters, Neptune is extremely lazy, yet energetic. She's a slacker, but when she uses her CPU powers, she is serious and shows her true intelligence (she's also a bit of a show off and can get cocky sometimes, Neptune is very egotistical).

For the most part, you do quests to gather shares, but if a certain area doesn't have enough shares you usually get cut off from the main quest in the first game. It's pretty much the reason I never finished it. I believe the other two don't have that problem.

Hyperdimension Neptunia has actually done so well it spawned a short anime series. It also has a spin-off idol game and as this Kotaku article states, a spin-off for Noire.

If you plan on getting into the series and have a Vita maybe hold off until August- they're rebooting the series with remakes featuring the battle/world system from the later games now implemented into the original ones to make them more appealinghttp://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita/games/hyperdimension-neptunia-rebirth1/114988

Ok thanks, I was planning on getting a vita soon

I'd just like to point out how beautiful this title is:

Hyper Goddess Faith Noire: Ultra Goddess Black Heart

... I don't know why this is a thing, but I approve of it.

I guess you could say she gave me a solid snake hbeheheheheheheh

And she made me shoot out a couple million liquid ones nyeheheh

...Too far?

But alot are already cute anime? like miku?

Miku is a pop idol they are representing that aspect. 5pb. is a pop idol representation in the series already. I get what you're saying there, but it's just a think they like to do. It avoids the need to get the rights to use the actual character.

Geez, I didn't know people still remembered Opoona of all games.
