Thoughts on Gamestop and its practices

Posted

Hey fans, so I have had a personal dilemma the past couple of days and was wondering what others thought about it. I have been a Gamestop customer for quite a long time since it's been the most convenient store for me as a gamer. Lately, their practices has left a bad taste in my mouth to the point where I don't want to give them any more of my money. I mean, the push for credit cards with an absurdly high interest rate, some states started a fingerprint ID system, their used game practices are anti-consumer, and a few others. Every experience wasn't very enjoyable either. Most were pretty shallow even when I tried to have a conversation with the employees. There's only one that I talk to frequently enough to where we're on a first name basis and friends on PSN. After 2014 though, I think I'll quit shopping there all together. What are your thoughts?

I'm quite the opposite- just the other day they told me I had enough points to get $50 off a purchase so now I can get a new game if I want

The employees at mine are very nice and helpful too, they don't pressure me to pre-order things like my old GameStop

The employees at mine are nice, but they often let it distract them from their work causing long lines every time I go. One of them also happens to be a big fan of Persona and Kingdom Hearts so we often talk about the two, but I do what I can do keep them on track. When they deal with someone who isn't used to buying games (most often a mom looking for a gift for her son/nephew/etc.) they usually take like 15 minutes. So unless there's some kind of deal going on I've been using Amazon for a while

It really depends on what Gamestop you're going to. The shop itself and the company I hate how they price their games, however I love the employees where I go to.Just last year this employee wanted me to do Gangnam style in the middle of the store (which I did) after I told him I was going to dance to that song when I bought Dance Central 3 from him. Back in October I had a full blown conversation with this guy about Froakie and about how much he thought Froakie and Mega Charizard X was. He was like I dunno like 25 and I'm 17. xD

The guys at my GameStop are nice. They gave me a new copy of Prototype 2 for free sense my original copy Halo Ringed.

But that's pretty much it.

My only dispute is how they used to give you games in broken cases when you bought it preowned

Haha I love mine I have some cool guys who just love all the games as me, and there is one chick who loves Ratchet just as much as me and heck we could talk all day xD in fact she only gets upset when people sell Ratchet and Clank games lol. But overall I love mine they do special parties for games and have prizes. Like last year they had a Pokemon party where some of the fellow employees dressed up like Pokemon and pretended to do battle xD quite fun! That was when X and Y where released.

The gamestop I go to is easily the best. Friendly employees and they don't rigorously push me to purchase this or that. Heck, many times I had full blown conversations with them about Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy series.

I'm okay with Gamestop (I don't live in states though, might be different there). It's not my favorite, but I do sometimes buy something from there. Though, prices for used games are way too high. I mean, for the same price you could sometimes get a new one from some other store. Some time ago I even saw an used copy of Link Between Worlds that was more expensive than a new one.

The only problem I've had with Gamestop is trying to buy a game and having them tell me it's out of stock.
