Ooh Riki so excited!

I will be picking this up after Zelda Wii U. Seeing the game play in the first trailer makes me feel better about giving up a PS4 and FF15. This is looking excellent.

The tone seems really different from the original, which has me a bit worried, honestly. One of the things about Xenbolade was that it had that quirky sort of charm of a SNES era RPG

My only worry is how the custom character thing is going to work. A silent protagonist (if they go this route) will seem like a step back in terms of character development especially after playing as Shulk and the gang previously.

Other than that aside from Smash it's my most anticipated title for the Wii U. I'm still disappointed it missed the 2014 release date they originally gave it but hopefully it's not delayed too far into 2015 :D

Yeah, I know that this game was announced a long time ago. I just felt like an active discussion thread for it would be cool to have, and we can update this thread with news whenever any is released.

For those who don't know, Xenoblade Chronicles X is an RPG coming to the Wii U at some point next year. It's a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, but it doesn't seem to be related to the original game, outside of a species known as the Nopons making an appearance in both. From what we've seen, this one will add mech combat, and allows players to make their own custom characters. Adding all of this on top of what the original game had to offer really makes this feel like it has the potential to be the best JRPG of the current generation. Anyone else excited for the game?

Question:Will the monado be a part of the story this time too?I mean a new wielder of the monado

Where's Shulk? I think what was believed to be him was at the end of one of the trailers...

Wait, so let me get this straight, you don't have to play the original before playing this game?

I can see what you mean. Even though the tone's different, this one still seems really interesting, though. Besides, we haven't seen much of it yet (Aside from the Treehouse stream, which I didn't watch a lot of to avoid spoilers). For all we know, it could still be similar.

I'll agree that I'm a little worried about how the silent protagonist will work. It still looks great though, and I'm sure they'll get it to work well!

From what we've seen, no Monado. The only connection between the first and this one so far is that we've seen one Nopon in a trailer. It seems to be completely unrelated in terms of plot.

I think that was just a placeholder or something. That was fairly early in development, so I think it might have just been there to avoid showing anything about the protagonist. Of course, there's always the possibility he'll be involved in some form.

1- the best use of a silent protagonist these days is to have a character you can make all the choices for, I'd say. Though an laternative example of a silent character in a voiced world that worked in Metroid Prime 3

2- to my knowledge, it's the same universe, different place and different time (it's actually set on Earth isn't it?)

1- Yeah, but I'm not quite sure if that will work with this game. I haven't played a lot of recent games with silent protagonists, so I always think of them as working best in a text game. I will say I'm interested to see how Monolith Soft will make it work, though.

2- That sounds about right. The people in the game actually all migrated away from Earth, though. There's a spaceship in the intro with the name of a country on it (For some reason I can't remember if it's the US, or Russia... They're so different, so I don't know why I'm stuck between those two), so we know that much. It seems like they were forced to leave. I'd assume Growth (The new enemies) are the ones who drove civilization off Earth, but we don't know why yet.

Oh well

Though it's kinda possible that they might get the monado halfway through.....though that's just my personal wish as I loved the Monado as a weapon. Also the fact that Xenoblade Chronicles was called Monado Blade in Japan if I remember

That's possible, I suppose. I think I want something new, though. The Mechon aren't back, so the Monado won't feel quite as special. :/ I definitely love the Monado, though. It's probably my favorite gaming weapon.

Also, I remember hearing that it's just called Xenoblade in Japan, to fit with the Xenogears/Xenosaga names. I'm not sure why Chronicles was added everywhere else.

Xenoblade Chronicles is coming to Japan in Spring 2015.

Hopefully a summer release for us then? :)

Edit: Here's some screenshots too!

A few more screens here.

Thanks for posting this, I'd have posted on it if I didn't have to watch the Direct late. :/

We also got some new story details! From what I understood, civilization was forced away from Earth unexpectedly, and the main character has to travel across this new planet to study all of the different lifeforms and geography. The Gamepad will show a map. This all sounds cool, but I'm still curious about the deeper plot. We know there's a lot more to it, so I'm excited to see all of that!

Edit: Here's the footage from the Direct, with a better explanation on what I was trying to say:

Such a good track! I'm really feeling it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOzx6-VrsZY

Hm.. I don't like it quite as much as the original theme. Maybe because of the way it just felt, being so peaceful and almost like it were recalling an older tale of woe. This sounds cool... but IMO lacks any depth. Not to say it isn't good. It's got a good, steady beat to it, it has a nice buildup, the choice of instruments was good, and timing was great. I worry about the OST, since the sound is being made by a completely diffrent team of musicians and composers, I don't know if it will hold the same soul as previous themes like Makna Forest, Guar Plains, You Will Know Our Names, Confrontation with the Enemy, ect. Yoko Shinomura is easily my favorite OST composer, her music I can say has never really make me wonder "why is this like that?", so it's going to he hard to top that for me.On the upside, the new composer is the same one from Attack On Titan, among other things, and his work there is very good. So far, none of his pieces have truly impressed me as much as Yoko's have, however I am hopeful for his success.

I do hope that like the first game there are a few composers working on the game. I did absolutely love Yoko's work on Xenoblade Chronicles and given how much the soundtrack was adored by many, I wonder if XC X will have more than just Hiroyuki Swano working on the OST.

Personally I do like the main theme for X, but I do love the original games one more. I have high hopes for the OST but we'll have to see if it's any good :P

The musicis a lot more generic this time around

And personally I feel like there has to be a Monado is here somewhere, t's still called XenoBLADE, why call it Xenoblade if there's no actual XENOBLADE in the game?

I like the new music, but I have to agree on that. It's not quite as good as the music from the original game. I wish they brought back the old composers instead of getting a new one, but it's too late to change that I guess.

Rin (The girl with black hair) actually has hairpins shaped like the Monado. It's kind of weird, but that's the only appearance we've seen so far.

I mean, to be fair, it doesn't have to be a Monado, just a Xenboblade (So I guess a weapon designed to eliminate a specific species?)

Uh...The title isn't always directly related to the plot in Monolith Soft Games. Just for the info.

I feel the music just lacks the soul that Yoko Shinimura adds. It's the same soul used to compose all the music in Kingdom Hearts, but on a grander scale.

Just throwing it out there, but Yoko Shimomura wasn't the only composer for Xenoblade. ACE+ also did a lot of work with the game (Including You Will Know Our Names, AKA best boss theme in anything ever). I agree that she also made a lot of great tracks for the game, and the work in Xenoblade was probably better than her work in KH.

but with Xenoblade Chronicles it was. Why keep the name if there's no actual Xenoblade?
