So recently I came across a recent comment from a recent thread that said that sometimes the KH fanbase really is worse than the Sonic fanbase. Is this true? I mean, sure the KH fanbase have complained about some things but the fans never really complained about EVERY SINGLE detail of the games unlike the Sonic fanbase. I mean, unlike the KH fanbase, the Sonic fanbase ALWAYS have something to complain about. Just look at Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric/Shattered Crystal for example. So many fans are already complainign that Sonic isn't "fast" in that game. Yet when they get a game that';s all about speed (Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Generations) they complain that it's all about "boosting to win" and suddenly want a game that's like the Sonic Adventure games where it was more than just about speed. We get that kind of gameplay again in Sonic Boom and what happens? Fans complain. Oh, and let's not forget how everyone complained about Sonic's green eyes when they changed them. The fans rioted and said that it "ruined" Sonic. Yet now nobody ever complains about that anymore. So  sure the KH fanbase can be a pain to please sometimes, but I don't think they're nowhere near as bad as the Sonic fanbase. DO the KH fanbase complain about the gameplay in EVERY KH game? No? Sure some, but not all. Does the Kh fanbase complain about every changed in a character's design? No. So yeah, I'll agree about how the KH fanbase can be full of crybabies sometimes when it comes to exclusives. But I don't think that that calls for them being worse than the Sonic fanbase.

Pretty much every large fanbase is fun and atrocious in its own ways. I haven't been part of the Sonic fandom for a looooooong time, and even then it was mainly fanfiction, and during a time when the focus was on SA1, 2, and Heroes. What made me quit, personally, was the amount of awful awful fan characters. Sure, every fanbase has them, but Sonic is legendary for it.

 

When I moved onto other fandoms, I haven't really looked back. I only have second-hand accounts at how much the modern Sonic fanbase sucks. I don't think the KH fandom is as bad as Sonic's, but KH has the advantage of an overarching plot that compels people to keep following the series. Sonic games tend to be self-contained works that focus on gameplay rather than story. With games like KH or Final Fantasy, at least you can say you liked the story but disliked the mechanics, or vice versa. Not so with Sonic. There's nothing else for it, so if the gameplay sucks, the game sucks, period, and fans will complain. And I guess these days the gameplay isn't delivering.

 

I can't give my own opinion without parroting other opinions from sources like Game Grumps, so the most I can say is that the fanbase just plain doesn't think the games are good. What can you expect from a fanbase with poor games that does nothing but whine and moan? With their abysmal expectations for the next game coming out (and from my observations, it doesn't seem like the franchise is doing much to prove their expectations wrong), it makes me wonder why the fans stick around at all.

As a KH Fanboy, I can admit it is more annoying to be KH Fanboy than it is to be a Sonic Fanboy. The rest of the world doesn't understand how deep and epic KH is, so they tend to make fun of it, while Sonic is more of a simple, not sentimental game, so it is more praised.

Sonic fanboy here, Sonic's story is very under appreciated

The Kingdom Hearts fanbase to me is split in two groups:

- Those who don't mind the side games (BBS, 358/2 Days, Re:Coded, 3D and COM).

- And those who whine for KH3. Don't get me wrong i understand it's been a LONG time, but it's like all they do is whine X game is not KH3.

But generally it's the more friendly out of the two.

 

The Sonic fanbase however is spilt in many different ways, the main being:

- Classic Fans

- Adventure Fans

- Modern Fans

and now:

- Boom Fans

 

There are probaly more divides in the fanbase too, and that is what makes it the aggressive out of the two especially after games like Sonic 06 and now Sonic Boom. The basic fustration of the Sonic fanbase is that every few games the formula is changed, when it isn't needed. That leads to more splits and more arguing, nitpicking and agression. So you really can't blame us too much for how 'bad' we may be.
