FF Reunion has a summary of a Tetsuya Nomura interview that appears in Dengeki Games.

 

According to Nomura, Nintendo approached Square Enix about bringing Kingdom Hearts to 3DS. Nomura would only say one thing about KH3D, though: it will take place in the same time frame as the current games. Regarding 3D use, Nomura said he has a number of ideas.

O_O' That info makes things more confusing -_-. It takes place during the same time frame, but what time frame is that? That's odd. It could be anywhere between BBS and Re:coded since he said "current games". I'm stumped.

I think there should be two kh, one that would take place between bbs and kh1, the other must be KH3. All that is making it more confusing.

Nomura actually said he'd definitely expose the gap between BBS and KH1 for there happen too many important things. Beside the things pepe1092 mentioned you might add how and why Xemnas suddenly wants to look for the Chamber of Waking

where Ventus is sleeping by that time

. Then the other chamber Xemnas uses

to regain his memories of the occurences in BBS

So you see, there are tons of matters which still need to be discussed and which would obviously "fill" a game. And I guess -this is only an assumption- there's an extremely high probability that this game will feature Xemnas and or Xehanort as main protagonist.

Well I guess we still aren't moving ahead in the series.

The same time frame as the other games... WTH? I was hoping 3D would actually advance the plot... *sigh* Meh, if it is gonna be a filler game or side story, then it better explain a lot.

 

And how could it be between BbS and KHI? Unless the screen shots they have shown weren't cannon to the story (which I doubt) then it can't be in that time period as sora didn't have a keyblade at that point in time and he can't be fighting the twilight thorn as he didn't know about nobodies til KHII.

Mates, don't you all remember? It was said that there would be one other game to come out after BBS, after the timeline of BBS. So this is the sequal to that prequal which is BBS. I believe. The current games, meaning the latest game, being BBS.

I think it must be somewhere around Coded, because I'm confused on exactly what they could do between BBS and the first KH. I mean, maybe a ten minute game with updates, but that wouldn't be too exciting.

MX had successfully fused with Terra, making the new Terranort. Then after the fight with Aqua, Terranort commits suicide, making Ansem SoD and Xemnas. Travel through a little later, between BBS and KH1. Xemnas is making Organization Xlll, Ansem SoD found a pretty brown cloak to hide in and started his search for a host to feed on like the parasite he is, and...Aqua is stuck in to realm of darkness.

Can't we make a filler outta that?

Travel through a little later, between BBS and KH1. Xemnas is making Organization Xlll, Ansem SoD found a pretty brown cloak to hide in and started his search for a host to feed on like the parasite he is, and...Aqua is stuck in to realm of darkness.

Can't we make a filler outta that?

He didn't commit "suicide" and produce Ansem SoD and Xemnas after the battle with Aqua. He locked away the memories of Terra and Master Xehanort. Think of it as Xehanort saying "if I can't have this body, nobody will!" Ansem SoD and Xemnas weren't born until a year later.

 

 

You can...or you can easily explain it in a few detailed cutscenes ^^

Good point, but I still think it either would be very boring if they made it a 'normal' length, and it could be good, but it'd have to be very short. I just don't think there's enough to make a game. But I could be wrong. I mean, I thought Days was a bad idea, but it turned out not to be too bad.

- The story behind how they got started on development for KH3D (temporary title) was that Nintendo talked to them really enthusiastically about it, and SE wanted to jump on board and they asked them if they could make something for this hardware.

 

Since they were asked to do something with KH, that will be the starting point for the game, but they are planning on expanding it to titles other than KH.

 

As to where it will start at, all he can say is that it starts around the same time.

 

- The main characters will be Sora and Riku. You will alternate between them as you go through the game.
