-- Night Raid Hideout --

 

A group of individuals sat outside in the brisk cold of the evening wind. Tonight, these seemingly harmless children and young adults were going to be officially inducted into a group called Night Raid, an assassination squad part of the Revolutionary Army. Everyone of these people were also told that they were going that certain "preparations" needed to be made in order for them to officially join. What these preparations were, nobody knew; the group was just told to wait outside Night Raid's hideout and wait for instructions. All of them had been waiting for at least ten minutes now...

 

One of these individuals, a young and well built man with tan skin, blue hair, and strangly, an old branding iron strapped to his back with a rope, was actually fine with the wait. He was very interested in joining Night Raid, of course, but just not impatient to join. He preferred to take things slowly anyway.

 

The boy, named Seelo, standing with his hands in his pockets and chewing on the straw in his mouth, looked around the area, eyeing the others that were with him. He wasn't much of a conversationalist, so he really did not have it in himself to start talking to them. Considering their strange wear and looks, Seelo could tell they probably never lived on a farm either, like he did.

 

Man... buncha of colorful characters that I'm hangin' 'round... I wonder what they're like... Seelo thought to himself, his country boy tone deep set in the words he spoke in his head. If anythang, they're probably pretty good at fightin', like I am, 'r else they wouldn't be here lookin' to be a killer for these Night Raid folks...

Lucifer stared at her intently. "You.... look like interesting. And you took forever to get here." Brushing off the dirt from his pants, he walked toward her, offering his hand. "I'm Lucifer Sorrou. A pleasure to meet ya."

 

She definitely didn't look like how he expected, but it didn't matter. As a Night Raid member, Leone was probably skilled, and he didn't want to get on her bad side. But she looks so out of place!, he thought to himself.

Elektra's eyes gleamed happily as the promise was made. She quickly added one more statement. "Cross my heart, and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye!"Eleketra sung, remembering the verse of the poem from one of her many books. Soon enough a representative from the infamous Night Raid finally came out to meet and greet them. Elektra was quick to introduce herself to the girl who introduced herself as Leone, jumping forward and raising her hand into the air. "My name is Elektra Basilia! I've been in the Revolutionary Army for over six months! Nice to meet you, Miss Leone!"Elektra said cheerfully, only then noticing how pretty she was. Her hair and eyes were like gold, and had a bright personality, like that one princess in the fairy tale. Which was it? Could be Rapunzel. "So pretty." She muttered under her breath.

Verona put her blade away as she noticed the woman coming toward them. It wasn't the person that she was expecting, but Verona figured it was probably going to be a while before she were to see them again. Verona looked at the woman wave and realized how odd she seemed for the kind of thing we were going to be involved in. Verona however decided to ignore these facts, and watched as things proceeded.

 

Hmm, I guess I'll follow suit, might as well see where this ride takes me. Verona thought to herself as she felt it was her turn for an introduction.

 

Verona looked around again at all the people who've introduced themselves and stepped up and said "Name's Verona." with a flat tone and dead eyes.

 

Verona felt as though she was half committed to this now that she's gotten to this point. She figured she'll wait and see what happens, afterall hanging around these  people wasn't the worst thing that she could be doing.

Harmony was relieved to know that she was not late for the meeting. As she was about to talk, a woman with blonde hair, and a revealing outfit came out and introduced herself as Leone. She asked for their names before getting started with the actual meeting. Harmony walked ahead to meet Leone. "Hiya Leone! My name's Harmony Yasuragi. I recently joined the Revolutionary Army and was assigned to Night Raid." Harmony said. "What are we going to do after we give you our names?" Harmony asked Leone.

Seelo / Leone

 

Seelo continued to keep quiet as the others introduced themselves to Leone. I dunno what it is, but this gal kinda puts me on edge just a 'lil bit... he thought, nervously chewing on his straw.

 

Leone listened to everyone else introduce themselves, looking fairly excited and happy to get to know them, while at the same time wondering how strong they were in terms of combat and assassination, and if they'll be cut out for what was in store for them...

 

She also couldn't help but giggle at Elektra's cute compliment at her being pretty. As for the others: to her, Kotetsu seemed like a fairly straight forward boy and probably not as naive as Tatsumi; Verona reminded her of Mine, but also a little bit of Akame. She could tell she might be a bit of handful attitude wise, but attitude problems were the least of her worries. And Lucifer...

 

"Interesting, huh? Well, I can say the same about the rest of you guys," Leone said, grabbing Lucifer's hand and pulling him under her arm, his face nuzzled by her chest. "I can tell that you're a fairly interesting guy in particular," she said rather lustfully; in reality, she was merely teasing the new recruit, considering he was the only one, and the only male too, to actually approach her and try to shake her hand rather than a typical introduction.

 

"Oh, and we'll be heading right into the base so I can introduce you to everybody else!" She beamed towards Harmony to answer her question. "But before we do..." she finally noticed that Seelo was the only one that did not speak up, eyeing him as he tried to make himself invisible, averting his gaze away from Leone's golden eyes.

 

"Hey you! What's your name?" Leone asked, scaring Seelo a bit and forcing him to look straight.

 

"Uh... m-my name's Seelo, ma'am," Seelo responded meekly.

 

"Hmm..." Leone studied Seelo; unlike Kotetsu and Lucifer, he looked a boy she could have a little more fun with like she did with Tatsumi... "Alright then, now that we got that settled, follow me this way!" She called to the others, dragging Lucifer along the way. 

 

Seelo gulped and follow along. I sure hope I won't be such a Nervous Nellie in front of the other Night Raid folks... he thought.

Kotetsu watched as Leone greeted Lucifer. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm even at the right place... These people are insane. he thought to himself, then followed Leone as she dragged her hostage along. As he made is way to the base, he walked over to Verona, and leaned closer to her. "You know, at this point, I think we're the most normal people here." He whispered.

Lucifer let his feet drag, all chances of escaping her grasp now gone. "Guys, I can't breathe..." He whispered towards the group. Seeing wanted posters throughout the cities, Lucifer honestly expected a silent, cutthroat group. Physical contact was the last thing he expected from the infamous assassins. Regaining his composure, he tried to break free from Leone's grasp, unsuccessfully. "I've been doing some assassin work before joining. Nobles, gang members, stuff like that. But never really anything major."

A devious smile crossed his face. "They call me.... the Prodigal Explorer."

 

He honestly expected Leone to laugh at such a statement or to question who he the heck he even was, but he declared it anyway. Everyone had an interesting back story, and he didn't want to miss out on the contribution. His tone becoming serious, he asked, "Is it true that you need members just because Night Raid can't keep up with the tasks? I've heard some very shocking rumors on my way here."

Elektra watched as Lucifer was dragged away by Leone, much to the dismay. It was very entrataining, no less. "How exciting~ We're going to meet the other members~"Elektra squealed to herself, caught up in the moment of excitement and joy. She would get to make friends, go to places, meet people, kill people. It was going to be great. She quickly followed Leone along with the others. All of the members she had just met seemed so unique and different from all the people she had met before. It only added to the excitement of exploring this brand new world she was born in fourteen years ago. Then a thought. A stupid thought most likely. Maybe not stupid. But it was curiosity, and not knowing that sometimes things are better left unspoken, in order to seek answers, she went ahead and asked anyway. "Miss Leone. What is the ultimate goal of the Revolutionary Army and the Night Raid?"

Harmony giggled at Lucifer's situation as he gets dragged by Leone towards the base. Harmony received her answer from Leone and becomes a little more excited and anxious to meet the rest of the Night Raid members. I wonder what if the rest of the members would be like? Harmony thought as she followed Leone towards the hideout. While walking next to Leone who is dragging Lucifer, Harmony heard Lucifer asking about Night Raid's shortage of members. "They probably don't have too many members, so Night Raid has been looking for more members, and that's where we come in." Harmony responded to Lucifer.

Verona lightly chuckled to herself whilst observing the interaction between Lucifer and Leone. Catching herself in the act Verona quickly composed and decided to immediately follow behind them with a strong stern presence, however this presence didn't seem like some sort of facade but a presence that gave her a genuine confident aura, with the impression that she was prepared for anything.

 

Verona looked in the corner of her eye as Kotetsu approached her... Oh, him again, god, what's he want?

 

Verona griped the hilt of her blade tensely as Kotetsu got within speaking range. A rush went down Verona's neck as Kotetsu whispered in her ear. Verona was once again met with Kotetsu's petty attempts at small talk.

 

Verona paused for a moment:

Normal? Verona thought to herself. She felt extremely disconnected from that word. Verona felt as though she grew up in circumstances that were far from normal. Heh, well I'll show him just how wrong he is...

 

In the next instance Verona swiftly unsheathed her blade and now had her arm extended outward to where her blade was lightly pressed across Kotetsu's chest.

"Heh, I'd speak for yourself on that front kid." Verona said with a slight smirk on her face and a light gaze. Verona looked directly at Kotetsu when saying this and you'd think the word "kid" was inappropriate as you could see he was close to her age in terms of appearance, but emotionally speaking Verona felt as though she had superiority.

 

Verona recalled her blade almost in the same instance that she finished her sentence before those in-front could see.

Seelo / Leone

 

The troop continued on, Seelo staying as quiet as possible. Leone, for the most part, ignored Lucifer's ramblings about his status because, quite frankly, she wasn't that interested, and in reality: no matter how good any of the new guys and girls claimed to be, Leone knew that they weren't half as good compared to her, Boss, and the other NR members. She even believed Tatsumi could whip them in a fight if he wanted to, if he was going to be serious about it, that is.

 

"Is that so? Well..." Leone half-heartedly responded after Lucifer finished, trying little to actually sound interested. Meanwhile, she was also listening in on the exchange between Kotetsu and Verona behind her, though Kotetsu's part was harder to take in considering he was whispering. Verona, however, made it clear what direction it was going in with her side, to which Leone chuckled to herself thereafter. They remind me of a couple people I know... she thought.

 

Also, since Harmony already answered for her, she stayed quiet about Lucifer's question concerning NR's members. Elektra, on the hand: "Our ultimate goal? Heh. Save that for later. For now-" By then, the troop were in front of HQ. "We'll head inside our base so you can meet everybody!" She cheefully, also deciding to let go of Lucifer.

 

Seelo gazed up at the tall building that NR called their base. He was so surprised at its granduer, the straw almost fell out of his mouth. Whoo, golly... I ain't never seen something that big in my entire life. 'Cept probably for the Emperor's place, though I only saw it from far away that one time. I'm seeing this thang right up front though, and it is astoundin'... he thought.

 

Leone then noticed there was another person coming towards the building from the side of the group: a young girl with black hair, red eyes, and carrying a sword with her. She also appeared to have something else in her hand..

 

"Oh, looks like you're back from your snack time by the riverbed, Akame!" Leone beamed, turning towards the person in particular. "You're just in time to meet the new guys."

 

Akame

 

"Hmm?" Akame, the girl in question, stopped in front of the troop and just stared aimlessly. Unlike Leone, she wasn't much of a talker. She looked like she was waiting for the others to speak first as well...

 

Akame, huh? She's a 'lil lady, just like Elektra... Seelo said, taking note of her short stature. Though, considerin' she's with Night Raid, she's prolly on a whole diffrn't level than any of us. That blank stare ain't doing no favors for her neither... Seelo said, trying to keep himself from getting Akame's direct attention.

When Verona pointed her sword at Kotetsu, the boy didn't even flinch. "Hey, you're kind of smiling! That's the most emotion I've seen from you all day." He joked, avoiding making himself seem weak compared to the girl. "By the way, if it's a fight you want, I'd gladly have a sparring match with you later. You're not the only sword user here." He said, pulling his own katana partly out of its sheathe, then placing it back in its protector. This is a new act for me... I'm not going to back down to her, though. Besides, for all I know, this could be kind of fun. He thought, now smirking himself.

 

Kotetsu noticed a girl around his age approach the group, and stare at them silently. She seems pretty quiet... Guess I'll be the first to make an impression. "Hey there! I'm Kotetsu." He walked up to the girl. He had forgotten he was still holding the food he was eating earlier, and instead focused on trying to get to know the other members of Night Raid. He figured that his missions would be much more successful if he could learn more about the older members, and secretly hoped that one of them would be able to help him improve his skills even more.

"Kotetsu... my name is Akame," she said simply, then immediately switched her attention from him to the snack he was holding in his hands. Her eyes lit up in a strange way, as if she was ready to snatch the food from Kotetsu's hands at any second and devour it for herself...

"Nice to meet you... Akame...?" Kotetsu's enthusiasm quickly changed to curiosity as he noticed Akame's gaze shift to his hand. Without a moment's hesitation, Akame leaned forward and put Kotetsu's entire hand in her mouth, lingering for a moment or two before she let go, retrieving the food that was inside his hand and eating it nonchalantly, still staring blankly at Kotetsu at the others.

 

Seelo went wide eyed at Akame's almost nonsensical behavior. Shoot... little lady, big stomach... he quipped in his mind.

Kotetsu was unsure of how to react to Akame's sudden action. He was thankful she hadn't simply bitten his hand off, but still felt slightly awkward having her put his entire hand in her mouth. "Uh... You're welcome?" He finally spoke, and nervously laughed.

Leone / Akame / Seelo

 

Leone laughed out loud at the sudden display, not fazed by Akame's actions at all.

 

"Don't mind Akame. She's a little weird when it comes to food. In fact, she just came back from the riverbed in the forest after hunting and killing some Danger Beasts. Right Akame?" Leone pointed out, also noticing that Akame was carrying back a leg of meat from said Danger Beast, most likely an Evilbird.

 

Danger Beasts? Her too? Seelo thought; due to his time and experience on the farm, he of course had a taste of Danger Beast meat for himself. In fact, "Beast Meat" as he called it was his favorite dish.

 

After swallowing Kotetsu's food, Akame held up the leg of meat in her hand, once again wearing a strange expression.

 

She declared to the troop: "You can't have any of it."

 

Nobody asked for it... Seelo thought. Still, it does look mighty tasty. I'd better keep silent-like though...

I let her stick my hand in her mouth so she can take my food, and she's not willing to spare anything...? Kotetsu thought dejectedly. I guess it's going to be a lot tougher to fit in than I thought... "Uh... Heh, don't worry, Leone. It's fine." He said, his nervous laughter returning.

Elektra watched in amusement at the member known as Akame. She had easily eaten what was left of Kotetsu's snack in a single bite, which impressed Elektra, but not more than the sight of the huge danger beast leg that Akame held in her hand, saying that she wouldn't be sharing it. "Wow! You hunted that down just for yourself?!"Elektra asked in awe. The most she could eat was a plate, and that would usually fill her for the day. To think that this assassin could eat that whole thing on her own was mind bobbling to her. "(...maybe...that's what it takes to become a great assassin?! To have a good appetite! More food equals more energy, more energy most likely equals more kills, more kills more practice, more practice higher chance of becoming a good assassin. BRILLIANT!)"Elektra thought. Though it sounded terrible in practice, in her mind it made sense, and that's what she was going to go along with.  "That's amazing."Elektra finally said before raising her hand. "Nice to meet you Miss Akame! I'm Elektra Basilia...how does Danger Beast meat taste?"Elektra asked curiously as she took a step forward, wanting to get a closer look at the meat, but being careful not to cause any misunderstandings. The last thing she wanted was a fight with her future bosses.

Lucifer shoved his hands into his pockets, sighing. I'll just show these people how deep my despair is, he thought to himself. Then, they'll acknowledge. Especially Leone.

 

Taking in the sight of the base, he shrugged nonchalantly. "It's alright." The appearance of a Night Raid member increased his attention, but the scene that played out made him feel good about not approaching this one first.

 

"Um.... I'm Lucifer. I don't have any food on me." He muttered, rolling his eyes. These guys are idiots, he thought. If it wasn't for their Imperial Arms, they wouldn't even survive. Or at least, that was his first impression.

Harmony stared in amusement as she watched another Night Raid member appear with Danger Beast meat. She was about to introduce herself when Kotetsu tried to introduce himself, who ends up losing his snack to Akame. To this effect, the white-haired girl started laughing as she walked closer to Kotetsu to elbow him. "If you and Akame are in the same room, you better keep your food in a safe distance from her." Harmony said with humor. "Hi Akame. I'm Harmony Yasuragi." Harmony looked at the meat Akame was holding. "Are the Danger Beasts that easy for you to kill?" Harmony asked Akame.

Verona seemed amused by Kotetsu's resolute attitude, she noticed his attempts at humoring her kept coming regardless of how much pressure was put on him. She somewhat respected this, no matter how frail of an image Kotetsu gave off. When Kotetsu flashed his blade Verona simply looked Kotetsu up and down and then decided to continue on forward. With her back now toward Kotetsu she gave off a light laugh. Well if he truly wants to spar later, I'll show him just how outmatched he really is. Verona thought to herself.

 

Verona observed as another girl approached. Looking at this person Verona could tell she was different then the others, the way she walked gave off the impression she'd been experienced in combat before. Verona noticed the girl's stance wasn't as open to weak points and honestly could sense that this girl had no real insecurities holding her back either. This was the girl Leone addressed as Akame. As Akame got closer Verona noticed Akame was holding Danger Beast meat. As she looked at the meat Verona recalled all the hundreds of Danger Beasts' she's slayed in order to get herself food for the day. Verona's stomach growled. Shit, has it really been that long since I've eaten? Honestly, though this isn't the time to be thinking about food. Let's just get this crap over with.

 

Verona intently watched the interaction between Kotetsu and Akame. She found it slightly profound. Who is this girl? Verona thought, And what's up with this Kotetsu kid trying to suck up to her already, jeeze, I thought he was a little better than that. Honestly, the fact she put his hand in her mouth is kind of gross... but whatever she seems definitely different than the others. I suppose this is the Night Raid.

 

When Akame announced that she wouldn't be sharing the food she had hanging in her hand Verona wasn't surprised. Seems pretty normal to me, I 'd have no intentions on sharing anything I hunted, I'd expect the same from others. Verona thought to herself as the others almost appeared bothered by the statement. Verona's had to slay countless Danger beasts on her own just to get a meal in her belly. When you're living alone, you either fend for yourself or die.  This was Verona's philosophy and she figured others better learn to stand by it as well.

 

Watching Elektra and Harmony continue on with their naive questions Verona started to get impatient. Can we just get on with this, Verona thought as she waited to proceed.

Akame / Leone / Seelo

 

Akame didn't bother to engage anybody in conversation or answer their questions. All she continued to do was stare at all them all blankly, strange look and all, while keeping the leg of Danger Beast meat behind her back.

 

Leone chuckled. "Yeah, uh, she's not much a talker. But anyways, let's move this along! We're going inside the base now!" Leone said, pushing through the doors leading inside Night Raid's base.

 

Seelo eyed slightly Akame as he followed Leone inside. Dangit. I really wanted to get that leg o' hers. Oh well... I wonder what other quirks these Night Raid folks'll have, he thought as he made his way inside.

Elektra whimpered to herself as Akame didn't respond, but relaxed when Leone mentioned that Akame wasn't much of a talker anyways. "(Hopefully the other members aren't this quiet?)"Elektra thought as she twirled the ends of her hair with her fingers. After snapping out of her thoughts, she followed Seelo and Leone through the doors of the base. Seeing how Leone and Akame were different personality wise, it only made her curious to guess how the rest of the members would be. The moment she stepped inside, it felt different from outside. She couldn't explain it, and didn't know why or how. But it did. Most likely was the comparison of the cold of the outside and the warmth of the inside of the base. But Elektra not being able to feel such cold or warmth due to her condition, there was no clear way for her to understand it. "Leone, this base, will we be living in here from now on?"Elektra asked, following closely to Leone.

Lucifer opened his mouth to make a quote on gluttony, then promptly closed it. Just who am I kidding! he screamed in his mind, These people are.... just people. Thinking back to the days of scurrying through cities, the wanted posters came to his mind. Akame's scary, silent gaze. A business-only assassin. Well, they got the silent part right, he shrugged.

Throwing his arms behind his head, he followed Leone, halfheartedly. Finding an opportunity to talk, he turned to Elektra. "I think so. I'd make sense, since this is our base. Unless we're... on a mission.... or...how do I....."

Lucifer realized how clueless he was when it came to explaining. He'd be a terrible Night Raid member.
