That pretty much any RPG takes at least 50 hours to reach 100% completion

Personally I think Chrono Cross is better than Chrono Trigger, but yeah I get your point.

Who on earth says I'm going to complete it 100%? Lol.

You don't like to complete JRPG's 100%? But it's so fun, bro.

diminishing returns

after a while, filling out everyone's sphere grid is going to lose its luster, with no new battles or cutscenes to push you forward

I haven't played any Final Fantasy game yet, don't know why, but I have some free time at the moment so I'd like to start with it.

The problem is I have no idea where to begin with and in which I order I should play them. Would be nice if someone could help me.

Perfect way to start is getting Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. It's available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 & PlayStation Vita.

Then I will start with that one, thank you :)

As for the rest, is there any specific order to play them?

Depends on the entry. Most, no, but some you will.

Final Fantasy XIII has two sequels called Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. These are all available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 & PC.

Final Fantasy IV and XII also have a sequel each while Final Fantasy VII has prequels & sequels.

The others are all stand-alone.

just to add on

there's heavy debate over which FF game is the best starting point. FF4, FF6 and FF7 are common picks, as well as FF10 (10-2 is not enjoyed by many people, fair warning)

FF4 is a really strong starting point, since it introduces you to most of the core elements of Final Fantasy. You'll see all the classic classes, classic enemies and such, and the plot is a bit simple but overall enjoyable. This is the game you'll see most people recommend. The 3D and 2D versions are drastically different though, with the 3D versions being significantly harder, just so you know

FF6 is regarded by many to be one of, if not THE best FF games, but it's also very beginner friendly, since it's not that hard. It has a fantastic story, lots of characters with unique abilities, and plenty of secrets to uncover

FF7 people tend to recommend because of its historical significance. This is Square's biggest RPG, the game that brought the JRPG to the mainstream. While t hasn't aged that well, it's still pretty easy to see why people loved it, and I think it has the strongest opening moments of any FF game

There are some games I DON'T recommend you play first:

FF5 is and advanced game. It's easy to break if you know what you're doing, but as your first FF it'll probably kick your ass. Really great game though, the premiere example of FF's famous job system

FF8 takes a lot of grinding and is overall really weird compared to most FF games, definitely not a good starting point

FF9 is, as far as many people are concerned, the best Final Fantasy game, with the highest meta critic score in the franchise. It's beginner friendly, has amazing music, characters, story, gameplay, graphics and design. Why not play it first? It's a celebration of all things Final Fantays. I recommend having 2-3 FF games under your belt, so you can appreciate all the homages and in-jokes

FF1-3 are NES games, they're curiosities at best, only a good starting point if you're a fan of very old school styled games with lots of grinding and unfairness

FF11,12 and 13 all play drastically differently from any other FF, and have different tones as well. Not good starting points if you want to use them as spring boards to play other FF games

Personally, I really recommend playing FF4 and FF10 first

Thanks a lot for this detailed information, I really appreciate it. I already made up my mind to start with Final Fantasy X HD Remaster, but it's good to know that you too recommend playing it first.

Hopefully I will like it, but considering the amount of fans it has, I have no doubts.

Again, thanks for the help :) .

if you don't like FFX, you should still give toher games a chance, each FF is pretty different

if you don't like FFX, you should still give toher games a chance, each FF is pretty different

Okay, I will do that.

I've played and have beaten but I've not completed at 100%:

Final Fantasy VII

Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-

Final Fantasy X

Final Fantasy X-2

Final Fantasy XII

Final Fantasy XIII

Dissidia Final Fantasy

Dissidia 012[duodecim] Final Fantasy

I've completed at 100% Crisis Core -FFVII- :)

I'm currently playing:

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD

Dissidia Final Fantasy (in order to master it)

I'm then currently re-playing (starting from zero) Final Fanatasy XIII in order to master it (didn't catch some trophies last time) and then going on with the rest of the Lightning Saga (I've played FFXIII-2 but I didn't conclude it, I want to master it just after FFXIII)

I've played FFIV for PSP but I didn't finish it (I have the Complete Collection for PSP and I will beat them :))

I've recently started playing FFXIV A Real Reborn but is really difficult for me to keep up with an MMORPG :(

FFIX > All. End of the subject. That's also the only one I have completed.

Bravely Default is a different IP.

Go play, X, X-2, XIII, XIII-2 and LR.

Oh okay, I wasn't sure because I've seen some people consider Bravely Default as a Final Fantasy game (and its in the FF Wiki)Ugh, I know; I keep telling myself that I got to go back and play FF VIII and X but I keep playing other games. Maybe I'll start playing them after Christmas...

Only Final Fantasy VII. Can't seem to get past that battle with Adel at the beginning of Disc 4 in Final Fantasy VIII and fighting Chaos in the original Final Fantasy is driving me nuts.

Go get X/X-2 HD and the XIII games.

I've only ever completed Final Fantasy X, and I also tried to complete that one 100%, but got bored after about 15 hours of straight grinding.

Agree with this - It's my favourite title and I've finished it a few times over. It's very good as an intro into FF even if you go in without the previous experiences. It was my first FF

I've finished

FFVII Crisis Core

FFVII

FFVII Dirge of Cerberus

FFIX

FFX

Go get X/X-2 HD and the XIII games.

I will. Eventually. XIII first though, as I haven't got a PS4 yet. Only PC, mobile and 3DS at the moment.
