Someone's take on Pokemon X/Y

Posted

Besides a few points here and there, I agree with what he said. Especially on the part he talks about how GF might have been too distracted on visuals and such, and fan service. (GF can't stop riding Charizard's d to this day.) He might have been a bit too harsh on the cons of Pokemon X/Y, but honestly this game had a bit more issues as a new gen game compared to past gens, bugs and glitches aside.

Of course ORAS exist now, but still...

Well the way I saw X&Y is that they were establishing the engine that's gonna be the ground they're gonna work on for future Pokemon games

And while it wasn't perfect I still love X&Y...sure not as much as Gen 5 or ORAS but I still like it

As for the more issue thing......nah this has less issues than Gen 1's bugged Japanese launch or Diamond and Pearl

Oh my god the way this guy is talking sounds like he's hating on the game. I understand it's his opinion but damn he kind of exaggerate a bit. And I disagree about the mega forms being over power because I use my non mega form Manectric to beat some mega form pokemon.

I didn't really like XY. It catered far too much to the genwunners and there was little to do once you beat the game. The Looker quests were great and the visuals were also pretty good, but it's pretty bare bones in overall content (in terms of region and fun stuff to do). It also had next to no difficulty and I cleared it in a single weekend. Although, to be honest even I find ORAS holds your hand far more than RSE originally did, so maybe it's just myself not finding the games hard any more given my age.

If they make a Z version or an actual sequel in the form of X2 and Y2, then I'd be curious to see what they'll do to somewhat re-vamp the Kalos region.

I'm personally done buying base pokemon games. I play Showdown and that's just as rare as picking up my actual Pokemon game. It's not really all that great anymore. I stopped playing ORAS at Rayquaza. I only picked it back up to get that contrary Serperior and then put it up again immediately after. There's just no excitement to it anymore. I love Pokemon, but I think I'll just stick to Showdown from now on. I'll purchase spin offs at least.

I can't watch the video right this moment so I can't address any specific complaints the creator made, but I agree with you about X/Y. They're not perfect, but they were still great. Game Freak was still experimenting with 3D, so it wasn't exactly a perfect attempt. I think that when they make Z or X2/Y2, those are definitely going to be fantastic games that prove how much Game Freak has learned about the new engine since making X/Y. OR/AS are already a major improvement over X/Y, so I'm excited to see how the engine will work out in the next game.

Also, I think people forget how transitions from 2D to 3D aren't always perfectly smooth. FFVII had issues with the background and foreground looking a little too similar at times, Ocarina of Time was a little clunky (That one's going to give me some trouble), Mario Kart 64's physics weren't all that great... Going from 2D to 3D isn't exactly the easiest jump to make, especially when you're making your own engine from scratch. (Also note that I like all three of the examples I made, I'm just pointing out that transitions are usually a little clunky at first)

I completely agree especially on OOT

When Majora's Mask came out it fixed a lot of the stuff from Ocarina of Time

if Anything Majora's Mask deserves as much love as OOT if not more

I haven't played a whole lot of either one (I've played enough of OoT to see some of its flaws, though), but I can definitely say that Majora's Mask was a major improvement. It's pretty much the same way that X/Y and OR/AS were: OoT was the first game to use the new 3D engine, so they had to deal with more limitations and didn't know what exactly they could do. When MM came around, they already knew about the engine, and could spend their time improving it instead of having to make an entirely new engine.

Actually its the complete opposite of what the video said. He says he thinks GF focused too much on the environments than stuff to do. He gives examples of areas that didn't need it, which I agree on. Hopefully more content is in the next installment, but I still think XY was the least favourable in bringing a new gen compared to past games.

I was really just going off of what Koopa said, I couldn't watch the video at the time. I will agree that X/Y could have used more content, but I thought the main game itself was enjoyable, and I ended up taking advantage of the lack of post-game content to work on Pokedex completion. I do want more to be added in the next game, of course.
