I reread a BBS novel summary just recently, and I noticed something in Ventus and Vanitas's backstories that drew my attention: Ventus is an orphan that never got to meet his parents. Parents in Kingdom Hearts have been a question sense the very beginning, right from Sora's mom calling him down to dinner. Most if not all of you know that. So that simple phrase raises a lot of questions and theories for me sense they never went in-depth. What happened to Ventus's parents? Where could they be? I have three theories.
1) Ventus's parents were scumbags that didn't want to take care of him and didn't give a bit about what happened to him, so they abandoned him on the side of the road.
2) Ventus's parents were good, caring people, but didn't have the means to take care of him, so they were forced to give him up.
3) Ventus's parents, whether they were good or bad, were killed.
Each of these theories are probable, but each has their lingering questions, too. So let's get into it, shall we?
1) The first theory I honestly doubt is true, because it leaves a glaring question: If Ventus went immediately from his parents to Xehanort, then why is he as kind and sweet as he is, even before he and Vanitas got separated? I mean, yes, I've seen the movie Matilda, so he could just be a diamond in the rough. But usually, what you give is what you get. So if this were true, he'd most likely be saavy in using the darkness instead of outright denying it when the time came.
2) The second theory makes a little bit more sense than the first. If Ventus's parents were good people, then that would most definately rub off on him, no matter how young he was when he and his parents were separated. But this raises another question: If his parents had to give him up, why would they give him to Xehanort of all people? I'm sure that, just by looking at him, any parent would be repeled from letting Xehanort take care of their child. The only possible answer would be that Xehanort was a family friend, which is honestly very unlikely.
3) The third theory is the most likely of the three. The Google definition of the word 'orphan' is as follows: "a child whose parents are dead." Although a child can be orphaned thanks to abandonment, an orphan is more often than not made when the parents die. Not to mention that almost none of us would put it past Xehanort to kill a kid's parents if it meant getting what he wanted. But this theory, too, leaves a couple of big questions: The same question from the first theory, and the question of what Xehanort did to cover his tracks.
In the grand scheme of the story, this is a trivial detail, I know. But this is also a small glimpse of the extent Xehanort will go to get what he wants, which may open up even more theories for the final battle. So what do you think Xehanort did? Did he pick up a kid off the side of the road? Did he do a family a favor and agree to take care of their kid? Or did he outright kill in order to get to Ventus? Toss some thoughts out there!
