March 30, 201510 yr I can understand why since SpongeBob is the only thing that channel has going for it.
March 30, 201510 yr I can understand why since SpongeBob is the only thing that channel has going for it. they have ninja turtles
March 30, 201510 yr Nickelodeon, in terms of quality, has the new Ninja Turtles cartoon and Power Rangers Dino Charge. The last good show they had was Legend of Korra, and that show got canned to internet-only access. Everything else is just mindless drivel, in both cartoon and live action form, along with Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents being dragged into the mud thanks to seasonal rot. And there is literally no signs of them ending any time soon. Not as long as they make Nick easy money. Heck, Spongebob's horrible quality alone is enough to sink the channel. Not even the new movie, which I heard was actually pretty good (no doubt because the original creator/showrunner got to work on it), can save its reputation now.

Cartoon Network: Actually trying. Nickelodeon: Milking a sponge.
March 30, 201510 yr Exactly. Cartoon Network: Actually trying. Nickelodeon: Milking a sponge. Pretty much. Having Ninja Turtles and Dino Charge, as good as that is, isn't good enough. They need more quality shows. Edited March 30, 201510 yr by Firaga Sensei

March 30, 201510 yr They still haven't had anything besides Spongebob? How saddening. Spongebob is like Nick's life support.

March 30, 201510 yr It's called target audience, I'm assuming that most of the people on this thread have well since moved beyond the target demographic which is why the shows might "suck" to you, but sad to say, once you leave the target demographic the company no longer cares about you and wants fresh meat, look at pokemon, if they really cared about the initial audience then ash would fricken grow up alongside us, but he doesn't, he is perpetually ten because that's the target audience that Nintendo wants to claim. This is a reason why the last "good" show was LoK, because it was made for a more mature audience, but since we are mature and no longer buy toys like their candy, LoK started getting shifted later and later until it was online only. Most cartoon animations are meant to both draw in ratings AND sell toys, korra was getting harder and harder to do both.
March 31, 201510 yr Nickelodeon's "target demographic" and the general aim of cartoons has nothing to do with it. Cartoons are more than just toy-sellers or entertaiment. They're a craft. There's an art to making a good cartoon. Hell, there's an art to making a good anything. In the past, they've been able to provide entertainment for people of all ages, and their content reflected on that by being handled with care and grace. Shows like Hey Arnold!, Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, Doug, Kappa Mikey, Danny Phantom, Jimmy Neutron, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Catscratch, The X's, Avatar: The Last Airbender, the early days of Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents, and much much more, including live action shows like Drake & Josh or Ned's Declassified. Those shows weren't just about entertainment. They were made by people who cared about storytelling or just being good. Sure they were still selling a product, but they cared about the product. Nowadays, Nickelodeon doesn't care anymore. Oh sure, they pick up a good show once in a while, and the live action shows aren't as bad, albeit still pretty cliche, boring and/or soulless, but its harmless in comparison to the animation, because all the while, they're force feeding gross out humor, fart jokes, seriously messed up messages, and other stupid crap in their cartoons like Fanboy and Chum Chum, Breadwinners, or the bastardized versions of Spongebob or FOP, with absolutely no aim other than to make the young audiences giggle over their stupidity and their parents spend their money on DVDs, merchandise, and whatever else they can shill out. As long as they get their money, it doesn't matter what it is, they will do it. And they know people will buy it because unfortunately, their audiences of today have been conditioned to accept it. Why? Because Nickelodeon, unlike CN or Disney Channel with all of their new shows, haven't brought anything good enough to break the mold of crap. Nickelodeon had the chance to do it. Adventure Time, one of the shows that has helped build back CN's good graces, was originally made as a pilot on Random! Cartoons, but CN managed to pick it up instead. If Nick got Adventure Time, in its current state, then it would have opened the gateway for more shows in its place to help scrub the grime off Nick's current state of affairs. But no; instead its still hanging by a thread with the two good shows it has and the pile of crap it has to offer otherwise, slowly decaying with each new bad decision. Sooner or later, Nick is going to fall through the cracks unless it steps it up like CN or DC have. Edited March 31, 201510 yr by Firaga Sensei
March 31, 201510 yr Man, I know what you mean. I remember The Adventures Of Jimmy Neutron, My Life As A Teenage Robot, Hey Arnold, Danny Phantom and the Rugrats! They were such amazing and awesome cartoons that were beloved by one and all! That's when Nick was in its prime! Now, all that's left is Spongebob and Fairly Oddparents. Time sure does fly, doesn't it? Edited March 31, 201510 yr by Shigehiko
