We took a short hiatus this summer and will be starting up again with a slightly fresh start.  Events have already taken place, but I'll happily provide a recap for those who would like to join back up again.  During our hiatus we have a lot of the same cast, but have also lost a couple of very special players in like.  If you're interested in joining we'd love to have you!  Please review the rules and post your character sheet.  Thanks!

 

This RP was inspired by Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Once Upon a Time.  After Vanitas enacted a curse, all characters--villains and heroes alike--were sent to the real world where they lived new lives, without even a single memory of their past selves.

 

It all started when the heroes were trying to prevent Ultimecia from casting this curse, leading them to break into her castle . . . .

 

“Is this it?” Lightning bent over and examined a scroll tied with a red ribbon on a pedestal in Ultimecia’s tower.  The wind roared around them, blowing the curtains rapidly, the dim gray sunset casting whatever little light existed within the room.  Locke walked over to her, taking the tiny scroll from her hands and examining it.  Eventually he nodded.  “It must be.  Yen Sid told us that it would be here.”

 

“But what do we do with it?” Lightning inquired.  But before Locke could answer, the doors to the tower burst open, and in strode Ultimecia.  The tall woman’s eyes casually swept the room, meeting the two heroes’ gazes unflinchingly.

 

“Well, well,” she said, drawling, “it looks like the savior and the treasure hunter failed their friends after all.  You didn’t expect me already, did you?”

 

Both Lightning and Locke looked at each other.  The scroll remained in Locke’s fist, but there was no use hiding it: Ultimecia already knew it was there.  The sorceress sent Lightning flying into a wall with an aerial spell as she proceeded on to the poor thief.  “Now then, I will give you options.” She looked mercilessly into his eyes, her cold ones bearing down into his.  “Either you can give me the scroll without a fight, or I could kill that one first”--she smiled ruefully--”whichever calls out to you most.”

 

“Think again, lady!”

 

Locke let out a rattled breath of relief, looking over Ultimecia’s shoulder.  She whipped around to see Ventus, grinning widely, the mini scroll clenched in his fist.  The woman rose, turning to Ventus stonily.  “Be careful with that, boy.  You’re meddling in very dark magic that you don’t know how to control.”

 

“Well, lucky for you”--the boy’s grin widened, and for a moment his eyes flickered golden--”I actually do know how to use this dark magic.  And unlike these dufuses, I’m not afraid to use it.”

 

Suddenly everyone’s heart sank within the room.  Lightning slowly rose, groaning as she extended a hand toward their ally.  “Ven--”

 

The boy laughed, a merciless cold laugh that sent chills down her spine.  “Guess what, Light?  I’m not Ven.  I  never was.  It was all too easy to use you guys to get me into this place, and now, now I have what I want.”  He tore off the red ribbon and unrolled the scroll, his eyes skimming it longingly.  “Now I finally get to go home.”

 

“Not how you think!” Ultimecia shouted.  “It’s darker than you could even imagine.  It will take you to that world, yes, but you will lose everything to do it.”

 

Again the boy smiled, shaking his head.  “That’s the point: I don’t have anything to lose.”

 

With that, he unrolled the scroll and blew on it, sending its words off the page and into the room.  A cloud of smoke infiltrated the air, and for a moment all was perfectly still.

 

But only for a brief moment, before chaos struck.  The winds picked up, almost to the point that it caused the Ven-look-alike to lose his balance.  It threw Locke off his feet and knocked Lightning back into the wall, now unconscious.

 

“What’s happening?!”  Locke demanded, glaring from the boy to Ultimecia.  The sorceress clutched her chest, eyes downcast and breathing hard.

 

“Everything . . . will be stripped of us.  Our homes, our memories.  Everything that matters.”

 

Before another word could be uttered, a clap of thunder roared, and this is where you are, and where you’ve been for as long as you can remember:

 

Destiny Beach.

 

You live in a city located alongside the coast of Florida.  You’ve been here for as long as you can remember, and you cannot remember a thing beforehand.  However, you don’t even notice that you don’t remember, nor do you care.  Everything is how it’s always been, and magic is nothing more than a fantasy.  Some of you are now doctors, shopkeepers, secretaries, teachers, and some of you still can’t find your place in the world.  Everything stayed this way for a time, until the boy who could unlock the secret--and the spell--arrives on Destiny Beach.

 

For a few rules:

 

1.) No Godmodding (this includes controlling or killing another person's character)

2.) No speedhacking (don't land blows on another person's character until they respond, et cetera)

3.) Follow the RP rules and guidelines stickied to this forum

4.) No duplicate characters (meaning two people can’t be Sora, et cetera)

5.) Pairings and romance are fine, but no yaoi or yuri, please

6.) Keep everything PG-13.  I can understand some swearing and violence every now and again, but no explicit scenes, gore, sexual themes, or language that needs this @#$%! done to it. : P

7.) Please be sure that your posts contain a minimum of four lines.  I won’t bite anyone if they do it once in a while, but short posts are difficult to work with and it means more work for the other players communicating with that player.

 

Now, for the characters: you may choose up to three Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts characters, provided that they play a significant role in the series (like, well, don’t choose the unnamed bartender) and that they aren’t already taken.  As character roles fill I will be listing them in this main thread here, so please be sure to refer to it before creating any character sheets. There will be some special roles for certain characters that I will outline and guide through the RP (Sora, Vanitas, Lightning, Ventus, Locke, and Ultimecia, to name a few), but beyond that it’s pretty free reign.  Please fill out the character sheet below:

Awesome!  I saw your post.  Thanks for making the time. : ) Take your time; it's quite fine. : )  I am wondering, however, if this RP is starting to lose its intrigue and if everyone would rather free themselves from the commitment rather than continue.  Unfortunately things aren't happening as quickly as I'd hoped, and some things seem to be dragging out too long.  I'm curious to hear what others think, and if they would be interested in indeed pursuing.  I'm definitely interested myself.

We are losing steam but it is an enjoyable RP. I'm just entering pie after pie and end up relying on the slow posters lol

I'm interested too! I'm sticking till the end! I learned from rping that honestly sometimes you really have to enact plot points earlier than you want to. If not then you'll never get to the main events that go down. There's rps that I've hosted for a over a year that are still at the beginning. Sometimes ya gotta just do it.

Thanks, guys; I'm glad that everyone is still enjoying it, even though it's losing steam a bit.  I didn't want to oblige everyone to continue if they were no longer interested, y'know?  At this point I *think* we're about 2/3rds into the RP, though it may be closer to half.  If everyone is okay with it I would happily continue the RP to its completion, though things may slow up for the rest of January on my end.

 

As some of you may or may not know: I'm embarking on a cross country move on Jan. 18th.  It's going to be a long trek, and we won't have Internet again until the 23rd.  I'm hoping to keep up as best as I can on my phone, but I also have college studies to keep up with while traveling so it may be a while before I can post fully again.  Thanks for your patience. : )

Good choices.  I especially would enjoy seeing what you could do with Kuja.  I was also trying to figure out if there would be a way for me to transfer Kefka over to you since I know that you're a fan of his, but Yuffie and I have a bit planned and going for them, so I am not sure if that would work very well. . . .

 

But ah, yes, the recap.  I will do my best, though everyone please forgive me if I'm wrong or have missed something and feel free to fill me in on the details.

 

After the curse was cast, Ultimecia is roaming around, her magic still intact.  She plans to eliminate anyone who has the potential of breaking the curse and returning the characters back to their original worlds, that would include the savior (Lightning) as well as the individuals that can unleash the X-Blade in the RP (Sora, Ventus, and Vanitas).  She is trying to capture the three boys to unlock the X-Blade, for in doing so she will have ultimate power over all of the worlds in addition to her manipulation of time.  Anyhow, Vanitas is relatively bad and is partially working with Ultimecia anyway, but most of the time he is of his own agenda.  Right now he is plotting to kill Roxas, because Yeul recently prophesied that he would be his undoing.

 

My intro post into Once Upon a Fantasy describes the current world that they're in, and if you've watched the first season of Once Upon a Time that may help in like.  Basically they are trapped on Destiny Beach, with no past memories of their lives in their original fantasy worlds or the quest that they partook in prior to Ultimecia casting their curse.  All of the characters played a role in some shape or form.  Originally I was aligning many of the villain characters with Ultimecia, but Ultimecia deceived them all in the end and took all of the power and the curse into her own hands.  If you choose Kuja it would be quite interesting if Ultimecia and Kefka had been aligned at one point, and where that might wind up once the curse is broken.

 

Right now many strange events are happening across Destiny Beach.  People are starting to have flashbacks, and Shadows are starting to pop up.  An Invincible appeared in the path of Kefka and Terra, which may be a fatal encounter.  Many of the characters now know each other, some have known one another for years.  There is a charity organization run for orphans by Aerith, which is working to currently protect a boy that had escaped the confines of Ultimecia: Sora.  Since Sora arrived strange things have been happening, and Ultimecia is now guised as a journalist to discover more about the hidden location of the three boys as well as Lightning.

 

Everyone has their Destiny Beach identities, which everyone is using throughout their posts.  Atop the post everyone is using the real name of the character, to help us keep track over who is who.  The curse will end in time, and that is when I'm hoping to create an arc II of the RP.

 

Right now, Cloud and Lightning are in the hospital, for very different reasons.  Lightning had been in a car accident, while Cloud had been shot by the sheriff and a t teacher (Terra from KH and Auron).  Cloud had been in the form of a wolf that had attacked them, and now he doesn't remember who he is but he remembers his past life.  Aerith is a nurse at the hospital, who finds it strange that Cloud seems to remember her.  She is running the charity organization Hearts 4 Souls, working with its members in keeping Sora safe from whatever odd and unknown forces seem to be at work in capturing him.  While she doesn't exactly believe in magic, she definitely knows that something is amiss here.

 

Recently, Caius and Yeul have arrived to Destiny Beach at long last after traversing many worlds.  They are a Yeul and Caius from another era, not the ones that had presently been working with the heroes.  Yeul foretells of the future and is working hard to aid Lightning in restoring the Scroll of Dreams and returning everyone to their home worlds.  Caius is pretty much serving alongside her, albeit breaking many vows and dabbling into things that he ought not be doing.  Lumina has also entered the island of her own volition and not with the curse, and thus has all of her previous memories.  Ultimecia pretty much has the poor girl on a leash, however, allowing her to have friends and a comfortable life if she does her bidding.  Recently guilt has developed in her, and she feels that she must take action to help the heroes.

 

The school is being run by the teachers, predominately Kefka and Auron.  Kefka is a snappy person, conniving and deceitful, yet he strives to be a better person and has found that Terra Branford brings out the good in him.  He is pretty much dating her, and wishes to make her life as happy as possible and to change for her sake.  Personally I find their interactions to be quite cute.  Right now Kefka and Balthier are working together to discover what a Magitek Suit is that Kefka found washed up in a cave along the beach, which is of course a shady transaction.  Kefka and Terra have also encountered an Invincible, which of course is mind-boggling to them because they've never seen the like before!

 

Xion is a troubled girl who has gone through a lot and is at times suicidal, under the foster care of Lightning.  The two are incredibly close, Lightning working as the head of the FBI.  Xion is often bullied by Vanitas and pampered by Roxas, who wants to stop Xion's suffering.  We also had a Riku who aided in that entire plot point, but his player has left us and Riku has been pretty much at a standstill.

 

Yuffie works at the Narshe B&B and is good friends with Zidane.  Terra is the innkeeper, working way too many hours.  Tyro is the Final Fantasy Record Keeper who works at a pawn shop.  He has retained all of his memories, though recently the Book of Records has been stolen by Caius and he is desperate to get it back.

 

Terra from KH is the sheriff of Destiny Beach, with Aqua being his partner.  Recently Sora has been placed in Aqua's care, and, to protect his identity, she is referring to him as her nephew.

 

The main plot right now is this: strange things are beginning to happen, and more people are growing suspicious of the world that they live in.  Ultimecia is hunting Lightning's head and the three boys for her X-Blade.  She also wants to kill Yeul because she will intervene on her own plans.  Yeul is trying so hard to get Lightning to remember and to ask Lumina to help her.  All other characters are going about their daily affairs, though Vanitas is trying to find a way to kill Roxas.

 

I hope that helps in terms of a recap.  That is pretty much all of the crucial information that you would need to know to begin, I think.  For Kuja, I always wondered if he would make a good screenwriter or play director, or perhaps he could be affiliated with the school.  Perhaps he could be kind of, well, crazy, only not?  As for Ashe, I do not know very much about her, unfortunately, but we could always use a doctor at the hospital or a vet for Vanille to work with.  Feel free to be creative and use anything that jumps out at you. : )

Destiny Beach backstory and personality: A deep interest in art, coupled with a superiority complex that demanded fuel for its fire, is what has driven Myles for the better part of his life. Growing up in the relatively small town of Destiny Beach served to satisfy the opinion which he constructed and chose to believe in: that he was head and shoulders above others as far as the intellectual field went. Deciding upon graduating that there was little to entice him to stay in his hometown, Price sought the higher levels of learning of university, where he pursued a degree in art and philosophy. But here, in a world where he was certain to be surrounded by the intellectual peers he always craved, he encountered for the first time the curse of being among equals, where every person was just as smart, just as clever, and were not willing to admire him in the way that he admired himself. His ego shaken, but refusing to be lessened by any degree, Myles decided to push his art and rhetoric further, often being intentionally abrasive or shocking to his colleagues and teachers. For any reaction is better than being ignored, with shock the easiest emotion to conjur, and the fact that no one seemed to be on the same level of art and argument as Myles helped confirm to him, once again, that he was in a league of his own that no one could hope to match. Yet, after graduating, he finds himself returning back to Destiny Beach. It's one thing to be clever, but it's another to let everyone know how clever you've been.

Accepted!  To clarify, however, people do not remember their past lives or childhoods that existed outside of the present world.  After the curse was enacted all of the characters were taken from their original worlds and placed onto Destiny Beach, a place where they have lived since they can remember.  Often people will not reflect back upon their pasts, but when they do it is rather blank.  Some flashbacks are occurring, however, so this is entirely possible for your character.  I am thinking it might be okay for Myles to have attended a university elsewhere, but for the most part anyone who tries to leave Destiny Beach has a terrible fate befall them (unless they were not originally affected by the curse).  I hope that makes sense some.

Ah, okay. I can keep his backstory as something that he thinks he remembers, but doesn't go into much detail about. And I might need some help getting him started in, mainly because I had planned on him returning to town being the reason he hasn't been active yet.

Sorry about the delayed response; we had a lot going on over the weekend.  That sounds terrific for Myles, actually.  Does he have a new job in Destiny Beach yet, or is he currently searching to fill a vacancy in his area of expertise?  I wonder if he would be checking out the schools, or if he would perhaps be at an unnamed studio?  Also, you are welcome to use any Final Fantasy or KH characters who are currently not in use to fill the roles of NPCs, if that helps any.

 

Right now I have Vanille doing nothing at her office at the animal hospital, and I have Locke leaving the diner and doing nothing of importance either.  I don't know if it would work well for Myles to meet either of them, but it is a thought, at any rate.  Perhaps he could be getting settled into his new home/apartment, which happens to be next door to Locke?  Would he have any reason to go to the Narshe B&B?  Yuffie, Zidane, and Ultimecia are there; I know that Ultimecia would take a particular interest to him.

Right now Ultimecia has gone up to Zach/Zidane in Narshe B&B, while I am not sure where Tyro is currently.  Nicole was with Aron/Auron in his apartment fighting off the Anti Sora, though I do not believe that has been resolved.
