The bottom five best selling video games of ALL TIME sold 15 million. When you consider that it's a JRPG, which is by ts definition is niche, you can see why it's a big deal. Nothing else Square has made sold near as much, with FFX at 8 million being the closest I see it the other way around- for a game that's been out for 18 years on three different major platforms, that seems kinda pitiful. Rerelease sales rarely breach a million, and digital sales aren't very well tracked even now FF7 sold 11 million units on the PS1 (which is why I made my earlier comment about the 90s, this is hardly "news") in terms of digital releases, it's probably unknown

I had assumed the 11 million was counting every sale, including digital. I don't speak Japanese and Sora96 provided literally no details, so I didn't catch that. Good point.
