Nomura said something about Sora being able to do the Keyblade Transformations because of something along the lines of "passing the Mark of Mastery."

Nomura: My ideas for it came as far as from KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX, the main characters of KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep were able to transform their Keyblades, and once Sora is able to pass the Mark of Mastery in KINGDOM HEARTS 3D, he will be able to utilize magic to transform his Keyblade that can be ridden as a vehicle and many other great things.

Does that mean....MASTER SORA? KEYBLADE MASTER SORA?!But does that mean Sora came back and took the exam again? To me, that seems possible

I don't think thats the case because terra is able to transform his keyblade into a cannon/glider, or ventus for that matter. It could be that he has the qualifications to be a master just like terra so he's able to transform his keyblade. Or maybe he learned it from yensid

Well, the quote mentioned "passing the Mark of Mastery"

I think it's possible that Sora took the Mark of Mastery Exam again, most noticeably because of his change of clothes.

Change of clothes? How?

Well, for one, the only times Sora got a makeover is when he came to meet Yen Sid. In DDD, he got a temporary outfit, and in KHII he got an outfit. My guess is that Sora comes back at a certain point to Yen Sid's, whether it be in flashbacks or such as that, and upon the topic of needing "True Masters", Yen Sid gives Sora another chance. Then the three witches change him (again)

Actually, I believe Nomura-san mentioned that Sora passed his MoM exam in an interview...

If Sora passed the exam, we can finally call him Master Sora!

He's on the same level as a Master he just wasn't officially given the title. http://kh13.com/videos/3d/eng-cut/172-keyblade-master-riku/The title itself is meaningless I can't count how many times this has been stated.

Well this is interesting!  Keyblade Master or not, Sora has the overpowered strength of ten Keyblade Masters mixed into one body! X3  Even if he's not a Master, Sora is just as powerful! :D

If Terra could do it , Sora can do it as well .
