FFVII's 11 million copies sold includes PSOne Classic & Steam

Posted

Square Enix has confirmed for the release of the iOS version of Final Fantasy VII that the recently announced 11 million copies sold does in fact include the PSOne Classic and PC/Steam versions.

Obviously, this remains to date the highest selling game in Square Enix history, but let's compare it some of the other high selling games.

Final Fantasy VIII sold 8.5 million copies before the Steam release.

Final Fantasy X has not gotten sales numbers in over a decade and it sat at 6.6 million in early 2004. It's safe to assume the PS2 version went on to sell 7. something million. While the HD remaster has sold very highly on PS3, PS Vita & PS4. Topping the PlayStation Store charts and selling over 500,000 copies in Japan before December 2014. With all of this in consideration it's fair to assume FFX has sold over 9 million copies when you include X/X-2 HD on all 3 platforms.

Final Fantasy XIII sold 6.6 million copies before it hit Steam in October 2014 where it topped the Steam charts.

Dragon Quest VIII sold 4.9 million units worldwide on PS2. It's unknown how well it has sold on iOS & Android and it has a 3DS port on the way. Dragon Quest IX sold over 5.31 million copies worldwide on DS.

Tomb Raider (2013) has sold nearly 9 million copies worldwide.

Kingdom Hearts sold over 5.6 million copies worldwide on PS2. Square Enix has not released any sales figures for HD 1.5 ReMIX.

Kinda funny how this one game alone sold more than the entire XIII trilogy combined

Lol. Kinda funny how your hate blinds you. Check your math. XIII trilogy sold more on consoles alone.

Mostly because the XIII saga was terrible.

He's wrong and so are you. :P

To even the odds you could add in sales for Dirge of Cerberus and FF7: Zack edition (sorry forgot the name xD). But it is only natural for game sales to decreases for games like this. A lot of people grew out of Final Fantasy when they reached a certain age.

Square Enix wouldn't do that though since the teams, platforms, engines and budget were completely different.

And of course. The series averages 5-7 million for mainline entires.

Well technically it is still a FF7 trilogy because they all contribute to the story. Well, I guess you can discount Dirge of Cerberus but the one with Zack is a prequel. Oh well, I guess FF7 was just that revolutionary and sets the benchmark for all FF games :/

Nah, Square Enix decided to "milk" Final Fantasy VII about 7 years after its original release by making a lot of spin-offs, prequels & sequels to tie into the game in order to make money. This was of course The Complication of Final Fantasy VII. Dirge of Cerberus did shocking but Crisis Core did really well. Advent Children did well money-wise but did even worse than The Spirits Within critically.

Of course they were going to milk it xD It's like they say, if the cow is producing milk take as much as you can.

Ah, such an amazing game. 6.6 million copies worldwide before topping the Steam charts.

Enough to make two sequels and get 83 on Metacritic and keep selling when it comes to Steam. Not to mention be heavily promoted and appear in all spin-offs since.

And the sales for Lightning Returns was so ''good'' and everyone ''LOVES'' lightning, the sales are ''mind blowing'' and don't forget that alot of people who like a game that gets HATE, they give the game with hate a good score...
