I just recently started another playthrough of FF7 since it was next in my game queue and I haven't played it in 5 years, and I was wondering to myself -  am I taking too long in the game or is it justified - 45 hours and I just started disc 2.

Is that too long? How do you play it?

Side note - firetruck the Fort Condor missions

Well it is a JRPG. A lot of them take a long time. There isn't really a standard of time that is required to reach a certain stage.

Nah you're fine. It took me about that long when I first played it I think.

Also is Fort Condor really that hard? Don't you just place units closer and closer to the starting enemies until you overwhelm them before the actual fight can begin? That's what I do at least.

Are you having fun with the game? I'm guessing so because of all those hours. If you're having fun then it doesn't really matter how long you're taking. :)

Nah, FF7's a pretty long game, especially if you're doing all of the sidequests.  I think I took about 35-40 hours in total for my first play-through, but I didn't spend a lot of time on the extras and sidequests like you're doing.  Like Bewilde said, if you're having fun it doesn't matter how long you're taking, really. ; )  If anything it just prolongs the enjoyment.

Another reason why those games are so expensive.

It's definitely a long game, even by FF standards. There's also a lot of side content that adds to it as well.
