I just couldn't help but notice in the official website for Kongdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue that the background design contains the KHX star, the Nightmares emblem AND the Unversed emblem as well. For all we know this could mean the Unversed will return in the episode. What's more this would mean also Vanitas could appear! I believe now that maybe in the episode story we will actually discover a way for this bad guy to return. So what do you guys think? Am I just being wishful? Or perhaps i'm onto something here!?

since he was born from the darkness in Ventus' heart that makes him a being of pure darkness. So it's plausible he went to the realm of darkness.

I was actually wondering if he may return in this chapter, not necessarily because of the evidence you provided, but that does make it seem even more possible.

By the end of Birth By Sleep, Vanitas returned to Ventus due to their clash.

Yes I understand that but why else would they use the symbol for the design background of the game if they weren't going to show up? Like they could've used the heart shaped symbol on their clothes or the wayfinders but they put this, so if the unversed are going to show up it's safe to assume this hints at vanitas returning somehow doesn't it?

Vanitas returning has been foreshadowed for a while, from his sentiment, to his brief appearance in KH3D, and finally, as one of the Chess Pieces, but it's been expected that he'd return in KH3 somehow, with the reawakening of Ventus, or time travel. However, It's totally possible that he'll come back or at least confirmed to come back in 0.2, though I'm not sure why he would. Last mention we've HAD of an unversed, was Aqua realizing that heartless weren't Unversed, and I don't see how Xehanort would even go to the RoD through time travel and follow Aqua around(unless Ansem the Wise is a vessel, but eh, unlikely). Tbh, I think a Vanitas appearance, or an Unversed appearance is more likely in KH3D as a secret boss or as a new kind of unversed on KHXBC.

I think the encounter will be with Mickey or Ephemera, if ANYTHING, but i feel like the answer has been in front of us the whole time.

My theory is that Aqua will actually encounter a manifestation of Xemnas, Terra, or Xehanort. This is because of the conversation's he's been heard having in the Chamber of Repose, and I feel like it would be a waste not to explain that in a tale ABOUT what went on down there(in the RoD).

Well, who knows? It's possible, but I wouldn't know how it would work. Unless Ven got split in two again, Vanitas time traveled, or some new crazy kind of explanation came up from Nomura, then it's beyond my imagination. I will say this though, if he did return, I find it highly doubtful that he would appear in the Realm of Darkness just because he's a being of pure Darkness and Ven defeated him. After he defeated him, Vanitas fused back with Ventus, making Ven's heart whole again before he faded away. The only way Vanitas is able to exist is as Ventus, similar to how Roxas exists as Sora after they fused back together. Vanitas' spirit or consciousness wouldn't wander into the Realm of Darkness because his personality is that of Ven's now, and any individuality of his own would still be dormant somewhere inside Ven's heart. So no, I don't think it would be that simple of an answer. If he and the Unversed are to be involved in any way, we'll have to wait and see what happens and what caused it.

I think this is very plausible.  The Aqua and Vanitas dynamic has been an odd one, as Vanitas showed a lot more interest in Aqua than he ever did Ventus.  I don't know how, but I would love to see this dynamic further explored and have it explained as to why Vanitas was more interested in Aqua.

Vanitas HINTED that he had Aqua as a backup in case Ventus didn't shape up in time for the final clash(And therefore not being the best candidate for the X-blade forger). Either that or he was aware of something because time travel

It would be amazing if Vanitas returned!  Who knows if it could happen?  Anything is possible!  We don't know what A Fragmentary Passage will contain, so we might be in for a few surprises!
