I Thought We Were Done With This Namco

Posted

*sigh* Just when we were starting to have the full song in the openings of the newer Tales Of  English versions like Graces F, Xillia, and Xillia 2 this happens. I'm a bit disappointed that they cut out the full song and only gave us the vocals for the English version of Zestiria. Welp, looks like I'll be playing the full song on my laptop when this intro comes up

Game looks kinda ugly imo.

Dat guitar though, that makes me prefer the instrumental version.

Probably cause this is the PS4 version, which requires a digital version, which might violate copyright. :(

Hm, I don't think so. I mean you could be right. But then again, this game is also coming to PS3 and PC too.

PC version is digital-only through Steam.

I bet the PS3 version will include the opening lyrics and won't have a digital release. PS4 and PC are required to have digital and will probably have this edited version.

PC isn't required to have digital. Digital is the only option. Lol.

SO I guess this really does explain the vocals in the intro of Zestiria. Man, this sucks :/.

Yep, it seems we'll only get vocals if we go PS3, but I'm still going PS4. Always YouTube.

Exactly.

You plan to do a playthrough on Zestiria when it comes out using the PS4's built-in capture card?

Eh, this kind of thing happens with a lot of companies, not just Namco. When SEGA released the digital rerelease of Sonic CD, they put in the whole Japanese soundtrack, but for some reason or other they couldn't get the rights to put in the opening and closing themes from that soundtrack, so they had to edit them into vocaless instrumental versions. It really sucked and confused me how something like that could even happen in the first place since they were able to get rights to play that song back in the day, and now suddenly because it's in a digital format it might be a no-no. Even more confusing, the iTunes album they released of it that year got to keep the full lyric versions of both songs! iTunes. About as digital a format as you can get. So then how could you not have the rights to have it in a digital game that originally was it's only known source of fame yet still have it's digital soundtrack keep it in all it's glory? Copyright infringement is a serious issue, don't get me wrong, but if the policies are so intimidating that it has to come at the expense of the player's enjoyment, then that's a serious sign that things need to be seriously toned down and reworked. And for pete's sake, everything needs to be simpler and easier to understand and interpret, because having a strange double-standard like this doesn't make any sense, especially when these were songs solely created for the existence of being in a particular video game. I mean, imagine if in KH 1.5 and 2.5 they had to have Simple and Clean and Sanctuary loose their lyrics because Utada or her dadager (or both) suddenly didn't want her songs being used in those games, despite the fact that she made those two songs specifically for KH 1 and 2. When it's a song that was made for public distribution through sales, like an album, that's fine, it makes sense, but when you make a song to be specifically part of a video game, then there should almost be no point to trying to Xactoknife it out of there just because you think that the company is using the song for their own gain and not yours (if so, then don't agree into putting it in in the first place. You didn't have to make the song in there, you could have done it like any other. If you enter into an agreement to make or give a song to be used in a game, you better understand that you won't be the only one to benefit from it anymore, and that in the grand scheme of things, it's only ONE SONG!). And let's players shouldn't have to mute or edit videos they've made of a video game that they bought with their own money and want to share with the rest of the world when their opening or closing themes pop up just because a performer or their manager/company might get mad at them or because the video streaming site they're posting on will just misinterpret it as copyright infringement anyway without even consulting the "infringed" party and will take the video down altogether instead of trying to figure things out.

GAH! Sorry for the rant, this kind of thing really irks me.

I mean, it is disappointing to hear this knowing how epic the original song is, but it is still a great opening.  I will probably just end up watching the original opening on Youtube when I want to.  It is amazing how the vocals make this song x10 better, it makes me appreciate her vocals even more.

About the Utada thing, that's exactly why 1.5 and 2.5 aren't on the PS4 and why no KH game with one of her songs has ever been made available digitally. Hopefully the presence of 2.8 on PS4 means they've worked it out and not that they're just going to use the instrumental version of Passion for the end credits.

Yep, and I'm going to do a boss-walkthrough. I alredy pre ordered the collectors edition. :)

I don't play Tales games, but still, that is a pretty sick piece of guitar playing. Honestly, my candid opinion is that it's better without lyrics.

Hope so. It's annoying how air tight this thing is getting. xP

Actually I've been hearing the PS3 wversion won't have vocals either

Well it didn't have a digital version in Japan, but if it has one here, then yeah it probably won't.
