Sure it's his opinion, but still... I respect his opinion, but they way he worded his statement sounds rude especially with the "true" zelda fan nonsense. seriously though, does that seriously mean that I have to hate Twilight Princess in order to become a "true" zelda fan?

People who say stuff like this are stupid. Just because someone else likes a game you don't doesn't mean they are lower than you. Everybody has different tastes. A 'True fan' to me is somebody who loves the franchise, respects it and respects everybody else within it no matter their opinion.

Yeah, it's a typical fallacy you see in every fandom. "A true Sonic fan knows that the Genesis games were the only good Sonic games in existence", "A true Kingdom Hearts fan knows that all the spin-offs are just stupid filler and aren't even that fun or good", "A true Metal Gear fan knows that Raiden sucks anyone who isn't Solid Snake or Big Boss isn't worth playing as", etc. The list goes on. People will have different opinions or tastes, but they all express them differently as well. Some express them in a way that is true to themselves but respectful to others of different opinions, while others are just completely self-absorbed and actually believe that their beliefs are to be taken as fact, must force their opinions onto others, and that anyone who doesn't agree is trying to antagonize them. Ultimately it's not similar tastes or interests that bring fans together, rather it's understanding and acceptance, as well as some tolerance here and there.

Funny, I've been told I'm not a true fan for disliking TP. It was a terrible game to me, doesn't mean I don't love the series. For the love of the goddesses, I'm on here as a specific Hero from the franchise's timeline. I'm actually more open to new ideas for Zelda and most of those ideas, the community hates people like me for.

I'm open to new ideas too, but I get dense sometimes when I'm not sure if I'm going to like this certain gameplay element in a new zelda game. Anyways, I kinda see where you're coming from. you should just be yourself even if other people don't like you for liking TP

Wait, what?  What's so wrong about Twilight Princess!? D:  That game is amazing!  Visually and story-wise, it's one of my favorite entries in the series, especially because of the dark tone the game has!  Plus, Link and the gang all look like they've come straight out of an anime!  I enjoyed Twilight Princess thoroughly, and I'm sure many others did!  But, well, it's like you said, it was that guy's opinion, and if that guy thinks what he thinks, no one can make him think otherwise.  Oh well, what can you do, right?
