That also seems to be the reason why the storyline was dropped; because of the negative reaction towards her. 

It also spills some interesting beans on Zelena coming back for a big part of the second story arc in this part of the season, plus to those annoyed with Rumbelle, it appears as though they will stay together despite all that has happened. They seem to be a couple that always essentially stays together even when it appears that they break up anyways. All of this Dark One stuff, which some found boring and frustrating appears to be gone as well. 

Personally, from that trailer at the end of the episode, alone along with what was further teased in this article, I am even more excited for this second half of the Season and think that it will be better than this half. They seem to be heading in a pretty good and interesting direction with it, getting the show back on tact with what makes it good. It is going to focus on the main characters more it seems and bring the family dynamic about it back.

Merida was not dropped because people didn't like her. It's because her role was complete. Kitsis and Horowitz do not write based off of fan opinion. Besides, this stuff is written long in advance.

As for your secont point, dropping a storyline just becuse it's "unpopular" would just be bad writing. So I hope you're right.

Well they did include a doorway that was very similar to the great Doors featured in KH.... Plus Henry is an author and used a KEY in a particular way last season

The time travel in KH3D, not many people like it right? Well, Nomura will use it again come KH3 when gathering the thirteen darknesses so it will come back. He won't get rid of it because people don't like it. The reason they don't is because it is a little confusing. People will like what they can understand easily and not what they don't. Same with OUAT; just because people don't like her doesn't mean she'll go away because of that. Everyone has a role to play and will play it until their role is completed.

Especially if you love Kingdom Hearts  because like I said it is basically a more mature dramatic version of KH. You can get caught up o the series on Netflix and Hulu and watch past epsidoes from this season either ABC, CTV or Rogers on demand, depending on where you're from
