So.. Star Wars 7 killed me. [SPOILERS! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE!]

Posted

Soo.. Even if you have not seen the movie, stop now. This will kill you...

So...

Han got killed by Kylo Ren.... almost made me cry.

I don't think Han deserved to go that way. He should've made it way past Episode 7. I kind of hate Harrison Ford for wanting JJ to kill off Solo in Episode 7. I really hope he sees what he's done and tries to make a "miracle comeback" in Episode 8.. How? Read on..

So Ren activates the lightsaber and pierces his body, but thats nothing. The only thing that could've really killed him was the fall off the bridge. So who knows?? You could sort of bring him back, seeing as there might be a way to have saved Han. I mean, the only logical reason he is dead right now, is cause Harrison doesn't want to play Solo anymore, but if he does, we might get im back. To those of you who have seen the movies, what do you think of his death? and do you want Ford to bring Solo back? Keep it in spoilers! We don't want to spoil the movie for the people who haven't seen it!

Remove the "-". Text is what you type.

Well, sure.

Han's death was sad. Though, whether or not they bring him back I don't care. He was a great character.

I'd just like to ask, did you see the original trilogy before TFA? I'm pretty sure you would have more sadness if you did.

His death was just unfair though, and it's hard to find a reason to blame it on the writers. Harrison wanted out of this franchise for a long time now. He wanted to be killed off in the original trilogy, so I guess this is sort of fair, to him, but to us, it's a bullet to the heart.

While I was watching the movie, I really wanted to forgive the sloppy writing, but this scene changed my mind and made me decide that the film didn't deserve to be forgiven for its mistakes. I told myself that I had waited long enough for this film for it to completely shatter my childhood dreams the way it did. Even my friends, who refuse to accept that the films is capable of sin, mostly agree that this scene was a mistake.

Scene was good, made sense, don't know what people are bitching about other than "oh noes I liked him"

Solo was pretty important to the storyline.. they could've killed someone less important.

Unless Solo "miraculously" comes back in Ep.8. There are quite a few scenarios from which he can be alive. Since, he fell into nothingness..

See, to me, that's the point. He is important. He is a fan favorite. That's why his death meant something. If, say, Pho had actually died, it would have been a little sad, but we didn't have that much invested in him yet, so the impacted wouldn't be that much. Also, I think the way he died was good. He died trying to get his son back. He died trying to fix something he felt responsible for. And then you take into account what the killing of his father means for Kylo Ren and how far he has fallen.Yes, I am sad Han's dead. He was a fun character and seeing Ford play him again was a pleasure that I'm sorry we won't enjoy again. But, his death did make sense and I thought it was well done.

Fair enough. I'd still have preferred him not to have died. I get what you mean though.. killing off Solo was probably the saddest thing in TFA.

Also, if you look at it in a certain way, Leia sort of helped to kill Han.. Han already knew Ren was gone, but Leia asked him to bring Ren home, so he tried confronting him. Snoke wanted Ren to kill Han so that the last bits of light is extinguished, so Han's death was inevitable. I'm just disappointed it had to happen now, and without him even seeing Luke once. I'm sure Luke is gonna be sad his friend got "killed" by his apprentice/nephew.

Unfortunately, that probably won't happen, but if it did, I'd probably forgive the film's shortcomings again.

Han's death helped to let us know just what kind of villain Kylo Ren is. He's not like Vader, who still saved his son in the end. He isn't the type to spare anyone. He'll do whatever it takes to bring about his goals, even if it means killing his own father. Han's death was meant to be significant. Killing off a minor character wouldn't have had the same impact that it would have had if it was Han. We've seen him through four movies now, and they obviously knew that we'd all be sad if Ren killed him. Acting like the movie was bad for trying to get an emotional scene in is a bit of an overreaction, though. A lot of other popular works of fiction get away with killing major characters all the time, so I don't see why Star Wars can't get away with it. This is a tradition in the trilogies, anyway. The older master dies, and someone else has to learn to take their place. Qui-Gon died in Episode I, with Obi-Wan having to fill in with the Master position. Obi-Wan died in Episode IV, and Luke had to learn to take his place as a powerful Jedi who could defeat Darth Vader. Now, Han Solo died, and Rey's taking his place on the Millennium Falcon, and the death also pushed her to join the resistance. Han's death was far from meaningless.

and I somewhat agree with not wanting to see Solo dead, but they did it in a way that has meaning and lasting repercussions. A good way to go for any character.I can also agree on the Leia point. I see it as she reignited his desire to get his son back, and she gave him a little hope with her feeling that there was some good still in Ren. And Han is one more thing Luke has to be guilty about.

So, um. Here's my final thoughts

I've come to a conclusion that in order to make Ren different from Vader, they had to kill Han, to further the development of Ren's character. Han will be missed, and I hope Rey is a good choice for protagonist! Looking forward to Episode 8 and Rogue 1!

Yes I have. However, here's the thing.

The thing I hate a lot though is when story writers bring characters back from the dead (Kingdom Hearts being a HUGE example). So, if they brought Han back, it would negate the point of that scene in the movie.
