I got to interview DotEmu, a studio behind many Final Fantasy ports

Featured Replies

Wow, you got to interview some people from DotEmu? That's awesome! :D So, was the discussion about just the Final Fantasy ports, or did you get to talk about some more things?

Square Enix stuff. Interview's in the link above.

Wow, what a professional interview!  I have to say Sora, you've got the chops for being a game journalist/reporter!  The interview was a pleasant read, and it seems that DotEmu are a dedicated studio that loves their work, which is great! :D

Square need to get these guys to port KH 1.5 and 2.5 to PS4

Completely different. They focus on retro games. They aren't big enough for that either, this PS4 port of VII was their first ever console port and that was only after doing the PC version.

AND Xbox One and PC

Again, they can't and won't. Xbox One can't get KH1 and there's clearly licensing issues affecting the games, hence the lack of a digital release.

the PS4 has the same policies as the Xbox One in regards to digital, so if it can't happen on XBox One, it can't on PS4 either

Both the PS4, and Xbox One have the Vita policies same day digital, all physical games will release on PSN

I know. They won't be porting them to PS4, Xbox One or PC.

""When we first came up with the idea for Kingdom Hearts III, it was always 1.5, then 2.5 and we were always thinking about those three titles at the same time," he explains. "I think [putting the games on PS4] is something we’ll explore. We understand what our players want, so we will explore the possibility. I’m not making any announcements though, we can’t make any announcements yet!""

They also never said it won't happen, in fact they said they were willing to explore that, if for some appalling reason it couldn't happen they would have said it point blank it couldn't happen or it won't happen at all.

Nomura said over half a year later there are no plans. If they did release it on other platforms they would have to deal with the licensing issue. That could mean changing music. They also can't release KH1 on Xbox due to the contract exclusivity with Sony from back then. But again, no chance DotEmu would do it. It's not their type of work. They aren't that big, it took them well over a year just to port FFVII to PS4, it would also need to be further remastered and more. Expecting them to remaster six PS3 titles for PS4, Xbox One & PC is crazy. No chance.

More like a deal would have to be made for the songs, or already is made, also what exclusivity contract, because if there is one not that one was ever confirmed, it doesn't encompass PC, since FFX/FFX-2 is coming to Steam.

Also no plans don't mean won't happen, FF TYPE-0 HD, Lightning RETURNS PC had no plans of coming to PC, yet here we are.

It's one from back at the game's release. Square could not develop games for Xbox or GameCube but they could develop for PC, handhelds etc.

Means it's awhile away if it happens and thank god, they already delayed KH3.
