A lot of people, myself included, are hoping a world based on The Black Cauldron will be included in Kingdom Hearts III, but many have had reservations that it will ever be included due to it being Disney's biggest financial failure. 

 

However, I read today that Disney has recently purchased the rights to 'The Chronicles of Prydain', the book series by Lloyd Alexander which The Black Cauldron is loosely based on.The movie is already a cult favourite, and this reboot they're working on will most certainly garner interest in the original.

 

Do you think this could impact the likelihood of there being a Black Cauldron world? 

 

Not much really. Purchasing an asset doesn't really change anything. If Square Enix and Disney are creating new worlds out of Disney assets that haven't been used yet, The Black Cauldron is a likely possibility, along with The Emperor's New Groove and Treasure Planet.

I hope so; it has a lot of potential and as a Dark World it fills the criteria. It is my personal top hope for a world in the game; however as mentioned above; owning an asset doesn't increase the odds , nor however does it harm the odds. I will remain optimistic about the chances of this being included

No, I don't think this has anything to do with KH. I definitely do think that The Black Cauldron's chances of being in KH3 are very high. There's definitely a large amount of people wanting it in KH3, plus it fits the themes of KH quite nicely.

The Black Cauldron was released in 1985. We've had older films being featured in Kingdom Hearts, so that's definetly not a reason for it not to be in Kingdom Hearts III. It's failure however, could be a valid reason not to include it. Not only did it have mediocre reviews, in the box office it made a little over USD21 million. That's less than half its budget, which was USD44 million.

Yes, you are correct about the ownership right of Kingdom Hearts belonging to Disney, however, Nomura has explicitly stated that he has final say of what happens in Kingdom Hearts. He's stated that Disney wanted to have happier ending and moments for 358/2 Days and Birth by Sleep but Nomura declined those considerations. Thus, The Black Cauldron has just as much of a chance of being in the game as any other Disney world.

I certainly hope it will appear yeah. Or at least that the Horned King will. He's, to me, the non-comical male version of Maleficent (opposed to the comical male version aka Jafar). And since Jafar's gone, and KHIII will be, I hope, darker in tone... Well, all hail Horned King.

If Ursula can be resurrected for KH3D, I'm pretty sure Jafar can too for plot convenience. Anyway, The Black Cauldron is just as likely as any other world to be featured.

Yeah about that. What was the nature of Ursula in 3D? Her world wasn't destroyed by the Heartless, so so it can't be a Sleeping World, and yeah, she was kind of dead, right? So... Was she just some kind of dream-boss made up by the Sleeping Realm? I mean, they started in Destiny's Island, but was that a Dream version of the world, since the original Destiny's Island isn't Sleeping? 

3D might have been on the game that gave me the fancier headhache of all the KH. Damn.

If the series goes on for much longer, the well will dry up for the Walt-era films and the 90s films, so they will have to consider the movies from "The Dark Ages"
