Should I try out the Bravery Default demo?

Posted

I've heard that it is a traditional rpg, so I may not like it, but should I give it a go anyways?

Of course you should. You'll never know if you like something unless you give it a try. And if you are interested enough in it to post a thread about it then yea, give it a try. :)

You said Bravely Default, I had to come.

And yes, download the demo.

*Continues to play Bravely Second*

well it's not gonna hurt to try. that's what a demo is for right? go for it. maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

It's meant to be an amazing game! I haven't been able to buy it though -.-

You should try it out! Especially if it's free! (I don't know if it is or not xD)

Not really a demo you play 4 chapters :P.

It is half of the game lol. Should be 2 chapters.

wow wait what? the demo is 4 chapters? that's a mighty generous demo. in that case he definitely ought to try it because it seems like there's more than enough content provided to give people a decent grasp of what the game is like.

Actually i told my brother to check out first Bravery Default, he wanted to play Bravery Second: End Layer first

I don't know that's your choice.

It honestly depends on what you like.  Its a turn-based rpg, so you might not like that.  Also, if you played FFIII or FFV, this is much like those because you have to level up a lot of jobs, so you have to grind a lot.  Normally, I don't mind grinding (heck I even enjoy it in some games) but for this game, it just felt so tedious to me; so if you hate grinding, you'll hate this game.  You'll also have to plan out what jobs you wanna master, since it'll take forever to master them all.  Some jobs only work well with specific jobs, and are otherwise useless, so you'll have to figure out which combos are good.

As for the story and characters, well... (minor spoilers)

Tiz and Anges are pretty much the same character, with slightly different pasts and backgrounds.  Honestly, they're pretty boring, and one of them should have just been a silent character, because they're that much alike.  Ringabel is my favorite character, but he is kinda annoying for the first half hour of the game.  Also he's a 'ladies' man' so if you hate characters that are constantly checking out and flirting with women, you'll hate him.  Edea is okay; she's pretty much the 'tomboy princess' character, so if you like that, then you'll like her well enough.  All in all, the main four are okay, but there've been better.

As for the story, its pretty basic:  you have to travel the world and save the four elemental crystals, just like in the first five FFs.  That's for the first four chapters though.  The last four chapters, you're pretty much repeating the same thing: you gotta get the crystals again, and again, and again.  However, since you've already explored all the towns and caves/dungeons, there's no more treasure to get.  So, its just one giant boss rush, and its the same bosses over and over again.  But the bosses get stronger each time you beat them, so that's where the grinding comes in.  However, the regular enemies stay the same, so grinding is annoying because most enemies don't give you a lot of exp.  So, if you hate anything that I mentioned above, then you will not like this game.

Well, this is my opinion.  I know mine isn't as positive towards this game as others here, but I just wanted to warn you of some of the things in Bravely Default that could be deal breakers for people.  But, this is up to you if you wanna give it a shot or not.  So, good luck! :)
