Hey there everyone, how's it going!?  So then, today, I wanted to talk to you all about an amazing video game called Dark Souls! (A few of you have already played this game, like Master Dave! :D)  It's available for the Playstation 3, XBox 360 and PC, and it's a blast to play! Here I, The Friendly Neighborhood Webhead, give my review on the game and tell you why you should play it!  Enjoy the vid! :D

So, for those of you who've played Dark Souls, did you enjoy it?  What was your favorite moment or boss fight in the game? Let me know in the comments below! :D

My favorite boss fight in the series is still Ornstien and Smough. It's the perfect epitome of what a Dark Souls boss should be, in that it's difficult, but fair and manageable. It forces you to manage the space around you, makes you have to judge when the time to strike is rather than just going hoss, and the differing styles of the world's greatest tag team keeps you on your toes. And just as you think you've got their number, phase two happens, and I really dig that it changes depending on who you killed first. Not to mention that the Smough hammer is my favorite weapon.

OOOOOOOOH!

I'm a big fan of Kingdom Hearts. I was always like "Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix is my favourite game and nothing will ever change that."

But then my brother wanted me to try Dark Souls.

I tried it. Didn't enjoy.

I tried it again. Didn't enjoy.

I tried it again. Didn't enjoy.

But then, when I tried it for the fourth time, I got past Blightown and Depths, the two places that made me lose my motivation to keep playing. And oops I'm addicted. Dark Souls became my favourite game, even surpassing KH2FM.

O&S are my favourite bosses, too. I died over 40 times. I lost my will to live. I accepted nihilism as my life philosophy.

and then I beat them. Oh my god, I became a god!

My favourite boss was the final boss, especially because of the whole "plot twist" it came with. Throughout the game you hear about him and so you think that if you ever face him he'll be this all-powerful god with fancy powers and you think the boss battle would have the typical "epic" music that all final bosses of a video game have, but no.It's completely different when you actually enter the last arena. The music is this soft, beautiful piano that's unbelievably fitting for this final battle. The boss itself is a burnt out husk, only a shadow of his former self and completely different from your expectations. Just the sight of him and the music that plays is enough to tell you his story and god i just loved that very first moment i encountered him. It's always gonna be one of the most memorable moments i've ever had in a video game

Ah yes, haha, you mentioned to me that you loved that battle at one point!  Yeah, it's a pretty fun battle, and you're right, I did have to keep myself on my toes!  The battle constantly kept me on the edge of my seat!  At one point, I couldn't take it anymore!  But luckily, with help from Solaire and from an online player, we were able to overpower the two titans! :D

Lol, that's awesome!  Yeah, the game had a funny way of making you want to play more, despite dying so many times!  It was that kind of addicting!  It got me playing for 90 hours!!! xD

Omg, I know, right!?  I was like: "Good God, who am I gonna face now?"  When I saw that it was Gwyn, I was like: "Wait, what!?  Him!? THAT'S HIM!?"  And you know, the thing that made this battle all the more epic was that he was coming at me all calm and badass-like!  He was picking me off effortlessly!  I admit that I died an intensely gross amount of times, and there were numerous attempts where I came very close!  And just when I thought I'd never win, I defeated him!  When I saw the credits roll after that, I was like: "Did I just beat this game!?"  Yeah, that's how accomplished I felt! :3

But yeah, this game was very well done!  And I actually didn't get as frustrated as I thought I'd get whenever I lost, because I knew that when I lost, it was mostly due to a stupid mistake I made, or I got rekt by a boss! xD  But the fact of the matter is, I played through this game, learning from my deaths, becoming an all powerful warrior along the way!  I really loved this game!  I can't wait to play the sequels! X_X

I think Gwynn is one of the most brilliant parts of the game for exactly the reason you say: it's so unlike what most video games do. Rather than you give you a big bad with a choir in his theme and a twenty minute fight full of cutscenes and dialogue, it gives you something sad. The game makes it clear as you play it that a lot of what is going on in the world now is Gwynn's fault, and that he royally screwed up, but rather than getting to see him at the height of his power, we're forced to fight him after his fall, and all you can really feel for him is a kind of pity that's akin to King Leer.

And that's kind of a good way of looking at a lot of the fights and why they work so well. The opening of the game tells us that these Lords were super awesome, and we head to Lordran expecting to see them at their peak, only to find the world that they screwed over and the messes they left behind for us to clean up afterwards. The Witch of Izalith's pride led to the downfall of her city, her family, and left her little more than a bug at the bottom of a mess of roots. Nito is practically comatose with the curse of the Undead on the rise and no one in need of administering of the dead. And Seath, rather than find any kind of solutions to his problems, is left increasingly more and more desperate to solve the problem of his own mortality, littering the land with his rejected experiments and failures. There's this bizarre melancholy sadness that accompanies your moments of triumph, because even though you feel good about accomplishing these god slaying feats, the victory is always tainted by having to walk through their misery first, and witnessing their tragedy makes you reflect on your own.

Yeah, I agree, it makes this game all the more enjoyable!  I really loved how this game put you in a central role, and how we, as the main character, explored this vast and desolate world!  I could feel the sadness and grim tone the world had, and the fact that there were so few people around made it all the more sad!  Makes me think the lords did more than screw up!  They messed up with life in all the land!  I just loved how the NPC's described the events of the world and how bad in shape it was, ya know?

But yeah, back to Gwyn, I didn't expect to face him in the end!  And good God, when I did, I was taken away by the fight! (Sure, I was frustrated that I lost so many times, but still, I was blown away!)  It was quite the thrilling battle! :D
