I've been thinking

People who haven't played the series will judge it based on the series cover that 'Its just another kids game because it has disney!'

to be honest, for those who have played many of the titles (like many of you on the forums) will probably know that Kingdom Hearts is actually much more darker and depressing that all the 'Light and Friendship' that it has been dressed up to be.

Think about it, KHBBS was a story in which almost all the main protagonists and major characters on the 'good' side met with tragic ends. Days went though a story about being betrayed and then having to make a decision about killing or be killed by your dearest friend. KHReCoded was 'subtle' but nontheless had an ending though less depressing was bittersweet. Even KHDDD was pretty dark especially as it neared the end.

really only KH1 and KH2 had somewhat of a 'happy ending' but the temporary moment of bliss is always punctuated with a 'to be continued' (The struggle never ends)

As we head into KHXback story and A fragmentary passage, both will be equally as depressing. Aqua being trapped all alone in the realm of darkness while thriving on her memories of happier days to keep herself from giving into despair (I find it exceptionally sad that she ended up seeing a hallucination of Terra created from her memories). And In backcover....a crazy story about 5 union leaders all paranoid about a traitor amongst them.....and in they end they all supposedly perish in a great war lol

Leave your thoughts and discuss.

Kingdom hearts is not all happy as all thought to be.

To some extent yes, but kingdom hearts isn't as dark as the fans make it out to be. For a disney game it's dark, but that's it. There are far darker videogames, KH is really not that dark in the grand scheme of videogames.

KH isn't really that dark of a series. I mean yes some games are darker in tone when compared to other entries in the series but for the most part it's not as dark as some people say it is.

people seem to like describing the games in dark ways though, in order to make them seem deeper and more mature than they really are.

Not that Dark as a series, yes it has it's fair share of dark moments, but still.

It's not even that dark to begin with and it barely delves deeper into the themes they once introduced like accepting oneself and trying to find one's place in the world.............all of that is overshadowed tremendously by the convoluted lore and the series overglorifying Xehanort and everything about the keyblade to the point those two are more important than fleshing out the themes and characters

I don't think the series is dark really. Also, this:

-Series trying to be dark

-Use arguably disney's darkest film, but they talk about the only about friendship.

-Instead of the villain, we get this: http://www.khwiki.com/images/thumb/c/c5/Wargoyle_(Sora's_Side)_KH3D.png/300px-Wargoyle_(Sora's_Side)_KH3D.png

La Cite de cloche pissed me off so much

They pick up Disney's darkest film yet they do jackshit with it

WE COULD'VE GOTTEN A BOSS FIGHT WITH FROLLO.......HECK FROLLO WOULD'VE BEEN PERFECT AS PART OF THE DISNEY LEAGUE OF VILLAINS but nope...........FRUIT BAT AND MORE XEHANORT

I actually used to think KH was for kids: There were massive standee's when KH II came out at Walmart, and the Mickey one made me think it was some toddler game.

KH isn't dark in the "Blood and gore" way (despite some fanart adding it), but DOES has actually unsettling, almost disturbing ideas to it: people removing their hearts to become souless recreations of themselves. Worlds cut off from each other to prevent a total destruction. You can be fully forgotten, and removed from your life just like that.

Those are some fairly dark ideas for Disney to tackle, and it's what makes KH seem deeper at times.

Like the idea that 500 heart score you racked up in DAYS is the hearts of 500 people who died to become Heartless.
