Kingdom Hearts 3D to be localized in English, German & French

Square Enix have announced some details concerning the European version of Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance]. They confirmed that the game will only support English, German and French language (in the form of text/subtitles/menus/etc), with English voice overs for all. In Spain and Italy, the game will come with a localized box and documents, however, the game itself will be in English. Kingdom Hearts 3D releases in Europe on July 20, 2012.

Well that's fine for me, as an English speaking American, but I feel bad for the fans that are getting ripped off because of this. I have a feeling some people are gonna be pretty ticked off.

Allon enfants de la patrie~ :D

I'm happy to know the country I live on will ahave a translation.

And well, for Spanish and Italian people... That's too bad. But life still go on, no need to complain. (Yeah, it's easy for me to say, as I'll have the game in french, I know.)

I'm in England but even I wouldn't say 'no need to complain'. I'd be royally pissed off if I lived in Spain or Italy right now, and they've every right to be.

Ok, someone help me out; I've been looking at several Italian, Spanish, and Mexican forums on this subject; and quite a few have mentioned how the Central and South American versions will be getting the game translated....is this true? Because if so then....it makes no sense not to give Italy and Spain their versions.... o_O

we always have the same copy as usa, birth by sleep was the only translated just like Europe with french, spanish, german etc. translation you can check that in your own copy of BBS but the others KH games dont, technically the NA/EU Birth by Sleep was the same, it doesnt affect me at all because I always have the copy in english except BBS of course.

Okay, everyone, does anyone know how to contact the Powers-That-Be of Square Enix? I mean, directly? Because I would translate the entire game's script (in the plot-wise meaning, natch) in Italian by myself, for free. Like I wish I could have done for The World Ends With You. If anyone can contact them, tell them what I posted here. Please.

Actually, you know what, screw the script. What I meant includes the on-screen text, menus and everything as well. I don't care if it means screwing up my sleep cycle.

Great! Now if anyone can tell him (directly) that I could translate the entire game in a week, we're in business.

Thank goodness - nice to see some sympathy, regardless of your lack of this kind of problems! As an Italian fan, let me say I appreciate that. I'm dead serious about it.

The funny thing is, now that you mentioned it, something really similar (translated subtitles for the story, untranslated menus) happened when Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy got released in Europe. Yeah, the other Square Enix title that didn't take forever for localization. There's nothing coincidental about this.

When we were told about the July 20 release date, we should have seen it coming in the first place (let alone what happened with Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain Of Memories).

This is stupid!

If SE plans on releasing games to foreign language countries, they should put effort to subbing the text in game to the country's respectful language. They did it for France and Germany, why can't they do it for Spain, and Italy? That's not right.

It does makes sense to leave english voices, but not subbing the text for the countries? that is downright low!

has this situation happened before with KH subbing?

Sorry, I had no idea. Didn't see the other pages of this thread and found out about it by myself.

Of course Kingdom hearts is dubbed in English, I mean English is the most important language. :3

Nope, it didn't. The fact this is unprecedented (and with a game series partially coming from Disney, no less), without counting the not-released-in-Europe-at-all Re:Chain Of Memories, is what makes it even weirder.

For the record, the other one game that got localized worldwide very quickly is Dissidia [duodecim] 012 Final Fantasy, and even in that case the quick lozalization came with the price of untranslated menus. The only text that got localized was the plot-related part of it, nothing more.

I'm not pissed about this because I can't read English text, on the contrary, I know English enough to enjoy the game as-is, as you should be able to tell by this post (hint, I'm Italian). I'm pissed about this because it's not like every other Italian can understand English that well; especially considering some friend of mine might want to try the game sooner or later, only to find out that not even in-game tutorials and menus are translated. Even if you don't care about a game's plot, the game's dev team should be wise enough to translate its tutorials.

In other words, I'm speaking for the Italian (and Spanish, duh) KH fans who don't know English.

I'll say, if any KH was dubbed in my language, it would lose the charm the series is known for. It just wouldn't be the same.

That said, it doesn't mean the same must happen with subs as well. Not everyone among my fellow Italian KH fans knows English, you know. (See "Fan Myopia" on TvTropes.) Which is where the heart (heh) of the problem resides.

(Man, I'm commenting a lot about this topic today. Didn't predict I could wish to voice my opinion that much. Must be because I'm speaking for non-English-speakers...)

It looks like J. Severe got shot by KH fans like me...

*puts on sunglasses*

... with a Keyblade.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

Sorry, that was meant for a striked-out comment in page 2.

Sorry for that last CSI Miami-esque comment, that was meant for a striked-out comment by J. Severe in the comments' (current) page 2.

would kh3d english version work on the 3ds XL if not no point getting the XL

I'm italian, but I speak English and I prefer the English version (Italian subs of previous KH games were sometimes really bad and full of stupid mistakes or inaccuracies). However, I know a lot of people who aren't going to buy this game because they will not be able to understand it.

I think Square will lose a lot of fans... but they deserve it.

KH 2 was dubbed in Spanish, but I didn't like it too much. Well, it wasn't that bad.

We're not talking about dubbed, I prefer the English dubbed btw. We're talking about subbed.

Bah, no problem. ^^

As far as I know, all KH games that came to Spain are in Spanish.

Yep. If you want a fanbase, learn how to keep it.

Of course, if the petition keeps going that strong, we can hope for Spanish and Italian subs getting released as a patch (hey, KH3D actually does support patches, so yeah).

Yep, we know, Miguel.

On a side know, HOLY SMOKES DOWNLOADING THE DEMO NOW (the only instance of the lack of localized text actually making sense).
