I believe this to be the reason. Like everyone else said, it was probably a parting gift. Roxas was probably still angry at Axel for not telling him the truth so I doubt he wanted to say "goodbye, its been nice knowing you" to his face. For old times sake though, and since he was saving it for Axel anyways, he left it:p

Sorry but, I didn't find Xions death sad at all:p if anything, I felt sorry for Roxas who took it pretty bad and got really pissed off. My real sorrow goes to Axel though. Seems to me he suffered more then anybody else D:
