Do the Wayfinder Trio deserve more backstory?

Posted

Tell me something: Did Terra, Aqua and Ventus deserve more backstory than what we got in the game, or is that just one of the limitations of storytelling? Personally, I would agree on the former, even Xehanort's reports on how he came to meet Ventus are short, evasive and lack substance:

"And that was when I met Ventus and made him my pupil," is all he says in the official English translation. If anyone agrees that the Wayfinder Trio deserved a deeper backstory, I can guarantee that maybe some of it will be explored in Kingdom Hearts III, maybe even the BBS novels once they are officially translated into English.

They definitely need more backstory and more character development in general. Aqua is pretty okay since she had extra gameplay and a better story, but Terra and Ventus have little to no development and that's not only due to bad writing, but lack of time devoted to them as well.

Hopefully, KH3 will fix that.

People hate on Days but at least that trio had backstory and acted like friends. They argued, laughed with each other and cried over each other. In BBS the game beats you over the head with the idea that they were friends but it just seemed like Ven was a Terra fanboy. All the flashbacks are just training, no actual hanging out.

Depends on what time. I think Ven's origins might come into play later on, but I don't really care where Terra came from because it probably isn't relevant. Not everything needs to be connected or have a deeper meaning, because then you're doing backflips to justify nothing.

i don't think we need to learn their backstories, but they just need to be developed better as characters and not just objects that act a certain way so the plot can continue.

Yes, definitely, we need to learn more about their backstories so we can see how they were like in their younger days, and how they evolved over the years into the person they are now.

I think pretty much every other KH main character, including some members of Org 13, has a backstory except for TAV. Ven has a little bit of backstory with Xehanort, but there's nothing for Terra or Aqua. And you can't just expect me to believe that they fell out of the sky and onto Eraqus' lap. They had to come from somewhere.  :/ And we weren't really shown much of their personalities either, or much interaction between them since they were seperated so early on in the game. I wish Nomura had included more interactions between the trio cause the three of them actually seemed to have an interesting relationship.

As one of my favorite trios, I think it'd be badass if Terra, Aqua and Ventus got more backstory revealed!  Odds are that in Kingdom Hearts III, we'll see more character development on that front with them!  With Ventus, it seems as though we might get what we've wished for, as Ventus could possibly have ties to the Age Of Fairy Tales! As for Terra and Aqua, learning a bit more about their origins would be pretty cool, too! :3
