"You are not allowed to post that image extension"

Posted

When Trying to embed images into my posts. It sometimes fails and I get a message like this on KH13.

Is there a way to work out what image extensions cannot be posted on the forums?

Not from what I've realised. If you can't post it, you can't post it. Don't think there's a way to determine that. The only one I realised you can't use is the one that has vignette ones that have revision/someweirdnumbers

I've already had this problem before, it happens with images with the url vignette cookie in them. These images are from wikis or wikias most of the time. I think it's set up to avoid copyright but I'm not 100% sure about that

JPGs, JPEGS and PNGS are usually the best ones to use although they are harder to find.

Some wiki images work, like this one

I'm guessing it's mostly the wikia images

Thanks guys! That would make so much sense!

Its a shame since heaps of KH images do come from Wiki.

I've managed to get around this in the past by downloading an image and then reuploading it on an image hosting service. But its just been a hassle because sometimes when I have multiple images in the same post and I get the message "You are not allowed to post that image extension", its annoying because I don't know which image is the culprit.

In my experience, it usually happens if an image is too big. Just try smaller and smaller sizes until you finally get one that works.

I think it's just for Wikia images because they're easily replaceable and get modified often.

I've had it happen randomly as well, and I can't pinpoint the specific problem. It normally happens if I just randomly take something from the Yahoo or Google photo directory. Sometimes going to the source helps. I think it does have something to do with copyright.

I think if an image has like a /raw or something like that at the end it won't work either.

If you want a solution, try uploading that image somewhere (I use postimage.org, others may use Imgur or whatever), sometimes those sites do allow those extensions while KH13 doesn't.

Trail and error?

That's all I can think of.
