Yoshinori Kitase talks about FF7R , FF6 Remake chances

Posted

THE DROUGHT IS somewhat over

Yoshinori Kitase-director of Final Fantasy 6, 7, 8 and 10 and the executive producer of FF7 Remake spoke with Famitsu recently!!

They don't have plans to make any more games in the compilation but Kitase wants to do something to fill in the waiting time between each episode.

“We’re currently brushing up the scene from the announcement trailer,” Kitase says. “We can now see the line of quality that we’re aiming for more clearly, but there’s still a ways to go.” The team’s goal is to carry this title through the project’s multiple episode releases.

In addition, he wants it to be like FF15-where they can have events and livestreams to talk to the fans

Final Fantasy VII Remake will be episodic, and if we want to have it go all the way to the end of the original version, then I believe we’ll need to devote everything we got for it, so I have no idea what will happen for things such as filler development [between episodes] and other works.”

The base of the battle system is done, Nomura and Mitsunori Takahashi (director of Dissidia 012) are working hard on the game. The materia system IS NOT being removed and any part of the original that was WELL RECEIVED is not being cut out. Obviously some people will still try and twist this because they don't want to listen.

The staff want a FF6 remake but they keep putting it off. Kitase wants to show off FF7R this year at an event and have it 'PLAYABLE' there.

So, the game is actually playable now or at least suited for a small demo at an event? That is good progress.

Nice but I'm afraid that some of the titles won't make it to the PS4.

It'd be nice to at least know if the compilation titles will still be canon towards this. I mean, it wouldn't be that hard to tweak the story so that it aligns with those titles a little more easily, you'd barely have to change that much.

Yeah same. I hope it's not split accross PS4 and 5.

More than likely yes. But we'll just have to wait and see!

Pretty sure that Crisis Core can be easily made canon for the remake. Let's just pretend that Dirge of Cerberus never existed (and that Monolith Soft was never affiliated with the game lol).

With a CC HD yeah. Nomura loves his HD collections so they can do a Type 0 and wrap in a Bombing Mission demo for day one editions. BD2 will probably do it.

Uh, wouldn't Tabata be in charge of a CC HD though? It's his game, lol.

Yeah, after all, he was in charge of Type 0 HD whilst simultaneously developing for Final Fantasy XV. However, from what I've heard, he said that he's not interested in a HD remaster because there's "No demand for it".

That's cause all the fanboys are busy demanding FF 7R to release tomorrow, lol.

Did you not read the 'BD2 will probably do it' part? BD2=Tabata's division, the FF15, Crisis Core and Type 0 team.

This is what Alpha is referring to

Which was just over 2 years ago, before FF7R was announced.

So, in other words, work on Cloud's adventure is going steadily along, so that's great and dandy! But my biggest intrigue in all this is the prospect of a chance to revisit Terra Branford's adventure! Transcendent never got a chance to play the original, so he'd be excited if a Remake was indeed in the works! :3

I think that I'm most psyched hearing that there's a possibility for a Final Fantasy VI remake.  It had the best story that FF has offered yet, in my opinion, and the cast of characters was just so memorable.  I still am looking forward to the FFVII remake, but honestly I'm not as excited now as I was when I first heard of its production.  Episodic releases?  That just stinks, and all the more ways that they can prolong the game's release and get their money's worth.  Here's hoping that it's not $60 per episode, though I can't imagine that they'd be able to do that.

The episodic releases are 100% justifiable. If they made it one game it would take 7 years+ which would cause people to lose interest.

FF7 is HUGE and has 82 unique locations. Remaking every single one to scale and adding new things plus all the boss battles mobs full voice acting and cutscenes etc would take so long. It's not efficient development and you would end up with another FF15. Every game in this remake will be a full sized game so it's not like you are being ripped off. You are paying for full games. This is a huge risk for Square Enix, so they have to play it safe. It's the 7 remake, of course they are going to milk it.

Personally I think it would be better to purchase the whole game once it's done for $60+ rather than have episodes released once every three years, but perhaps that is just me personally.  I don't mind waiting many years for a game so long as its complete and done well.  I agree that it would take a while for them to remake everything, but so far Final Fantasy have always been full games, as have most JRPGs in general.  There's nothing like having to take a mandatory stop 1/3 of the way into a game because the rest of the game hasn't been developed yet.  I don't really see how each episode is going to be a full game unless they change the story and each episode concludes itself, sort of like a trilogy of novels.  I actually think it's riskier for them to release it in episodes like this because this is a rather new marketing strategy, but of course since it's FFVII it's probably going to sell no matter what--I'm guessing that they're relying on this.

I think it can be viewed both ways, and I really do see what you're trying to say.  I'll get it regardless and still play it, though I hate the thought of only playing a portion of the game at full price while waiting years for the next installment when originally it was all one game.
