Hazama told Famitsu, “If we look at the most recent announcement opportunity, I was on stage at the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Opening Ceremony. And it [the game] did not appear. In short, we are currently unable to ready anything that has enough value to meet everyone’s expectations. Many users are expecting a story for the console version, which we are of course preparing. However, the focus of the game is battles and that has not changed. We will further enhance other elements as well, which will take a little bit more time.”

 

They want the game to also move in an e-sports direction (it'd be stupid not to).

I've got an odd feeling that at least one of those 3 will largely be absent this year at E3, in terms of news or announcements anyway. No reason, just a feeling in my bones, but maybe they'll completely shatter both my doubts and my bones and completely OWN E3 with huge announcements for all 3 of those titles. It's not unheard of.

So, the tale of the warriors from distant realms is coming, along with a story to it? That's very interesting! I remember that I witnessed two previous battles waged with these same warriors, and it'd be nice to get to seeing them battle again once more! You can count me interested! :D

It wasn't confirmed though. Kitase said he would like to have it playable but that doesn't mean it's confirmed. The fact that they're considering having a demo is already a good indicator of how the development is progressing.

The e-sports thing depends on how competitive-friendly it can be

 

Before thinking about big e-sports event they should try to see if they can get the game to be at EVO

 

Buuuut all of that depends on how balanced the game is and as much as I love and adore Dissidia the series is anything but balanced

 

The Broken stuff that one can exploit with characters like Kefka,Sephiroth and even Exdeath sometimes doesn't leave much room for creativity without banning a good chunk of the roster

 

That,and they should have the RPG stuff disabled from ranked competitive matches whether online or at a competitive setting.Levels should be scaled to at least up to level 50 so each character could have all their moves unlocked

 

 

In conclusion,balance wise try to make it more like Pokken Tournament and less like the Naruto Storm games(love those too but it too is broken as firetruck especially Storm 4)

It is Dissidia PS4 and I think a lot of people are going to want to play it competitively. They may start doing the Smash Bros 4 thing and reveal new characters every so often

general Popularity doesn't always translate to great competitive environment without a balanced roster and mechanics to go along with it that are both complex enough for competitors to experiment with but also simple enough for casuals to get in

 

Just because it's Dissidia Ps4 doesn't mean that alone is enough

 

As for the Smash Bros thing................that worked because it was exclusively done to new characters with old ones being sprinkled into the trailers of the new ones.

 

Doing a trailer for characters that are were already in both previous games isn't a hype generator....I know Kuja and Sephiroth will be in so this is nothing new but a trailer for a new character that wasn't there before or been a while since they were in a game would stir some hype like say...........a trailer for Vivi or a trailer for Ardyn

On that note, that dwindles the confidence I have for a lot of the stages previously presented in Dissidia, namely Midgar. Yes, this is the day and age where you could simply try to balance a character by patching it, but totally making an interesting stage that isn't campy for a 3D fighting game, unless you're the Storm games, is going to be pretty difficult.

 

I hope that each character has somewhat of a competitive viability, because the thing I hate the most is banning characters. I'm pretty big on using 98% of the time just my favorite characters, and if I get hooked on someone, say Noctis that gets banned, I will be livid.

 

I played semi-competitive (ranked) Sm4sh for a very long time. And although there are clearly trash characters and clearly exceptional ones, the most underlying factor for the game was skill rather than character. Lesser known character mains excelled at exploiting techniques (like myself) that people in the competitive scene weren't as familiar with, as well as those mains who are playing more competitively common mains (also like myself) who use mixups out of the ordinary to make themselves unique.

 

Not saying I was even close to the best Sm4sh player. I got stomped on 2-1 in my second round of my first Sm4sh tourney.

 

But that's exactly one of the things Dissidia has to do to appeal to the esports scene. Dissidia simply needs

 

-Simplicity. Complex enough for the competitive player to enjoy, but simple enough for the common person to play, understand, and most importantly, watch

-Ban-free. Brawl Meta Knight has to be the most well-known broken character in all of the Smash community. Having been banned in a lot of when competitive Brawl even lasted (among many other flaws in the game), what happens for all the people who play Meta Knight for being their favorite character?

-Competitive viability across the entire cast. Notice I said COMPETITIVE VIABILITY and not BALANCE across the cast. The only way you would ever have balance in any competitive game is to literally reskin characters with the same moveset. I don't care what people say, there can and will always be characters that are better than other characters in any video game. But by bridging the gap by making as close to every character tournament viable as possible, you can easily create a competitive game that a lot of people will love playing their favorite character to.

-Constant advertisement and long-term playability. I have over 1500 hours in Sm4sh to this day, combining Wii U with 3DS. What I can praise about the game was that not only is it addicting, but throughout the years of support, there was always a reason to come back, whether it be the Smash Ballot or a Nintendo Direct dedicated to Sm4sh. Not only that, but the game got me into some franchises that id later love (one being one of my favorite games of all time).

-Support. If characters are broken, Team Ninja and SE better get on their asses to fix it. If characters need a push, they need to get on it. What made Sm4sh successful and eventually competitive matter was that Sakurai and his team were constantly fixing the game, and although not completely (RIP Shulk is still average tier, got one back slash buff), he did make a wider range of characters worth playing in the competitive scene. Support from the debts not only by update, but also by just cheering them on off a Twitter page would be an absolute win for the game.

-A reason to be its own. Unlike Melee, which was the first of its kind to do what it did, which was combine extremely precise competitive excitement with a whole new layout (Smash 64 doesn't count due to roster size and the former, as well as very shaky competitive viability), Dissidia is not the first of its kind. Pokken Tournament sits somewhere in there, and although it isn't such a huge competitive game, it is still a 3D fighting game, and hence Dissidia will be compared to it. Not only does Dissidia have to differentiate itself (which it surely does), it also must find a way to give a reason besides characters to play it over games like it. Most of the reasons boil down to viewership. If the common person can't watch it while the competitive players can play it, then it will not generate enough hype or warrant to get it going at EVO.

 

The formula doesn't necessarily apply to all games. Hell, Melee is a phenomenon on its own. But, some of these factors are what makes a good fighting game a great competitive one .

No really I mean it.You basically said everything I wanted to say and more

 

I myself dislike bans and absurd nerfs and one thing I watched on a channel called Core-A-Gaming where he said instead of constantly nerfing characters why not buff others up so they can keep up with the uper tiers

 

Anywho,Dissidia needs to learn from the current competitors that made it to EVO before Square launches the console version
