Since I'm curious what's the most popular title now that Persona 5 is out. Only included the main games, so spin-offs aren't included. ^^

 

For me the choice is actually quite hard, since I love all the games I've played... Which includes all of them except for P1 (and kinda EP since I only watched a walkthrough since Atlus still hates Europe). Each of them have something unique that makes them special.

But I guess my favorite is still Persona 4... not necessarily because I think it's the best game in the series (that'd probably be either P5 or P2:IS). There are in fact a lot of things that I don't enjoy about P4, mostly how over-the-top and immature it can be. Not saying that the others aren't that at all, but P4 caused me several facepalms with certain events (beauty pageant, anyone?). And it really annoyed me how certain characters were portrayed, mostly Hanako... However, I really love the whole theme of 'facing yourself' and learning to accept yourself flaws and all. And I got really attached to the characters (even cared a big deal about some side characters, and I was a lot more invested in the social links than in either P3 or P5).

All that aside though, Persona 4 helped me through some pretty dark times and that's why it's always going to be special to me. It was also my first Persona game and the one that got me hooked, so I'm kinda biased.

i enjoyed P3 (i played the portable edition). it was my introduction to the series and i loved that one. it really changed my perspective on turn based games because up to that point i never thought i'd be into them. 

 

P3's music and premise convinced me to make a blind $40 purchase and give it a shot and it paid off big time. P3 also changed how i thought about video game music. Before i played P3 i actually didn't really pay too much attention to the music of games but man that OST was great. 

 

that being said, though, i'd probably still say P4 is my favorite. i think it was just the presentation that did it for me. the combat was a lot more enjoyable, you had the fully 3D locations and characters, the cutscenes...all that good stuff.

 

Plus I really just connected with the characters in P4 more so than in P3. some of the additions in P4: Golden also improved the experience like the assists you could get from your teammates, i.e. Rise being able to add stat buffs at random times during combat. Things like that during the final boss really made you feel like part of a team.

I haven't finished P5 yet, so I'm not reading any of the comments.

P5 is REALLY good and everything about it is so smooth and stylish! I like the story and characters...

...but so far I'm not falling in love with the P5 characters and story like I did on P4. I JUST got to September 1st, so I still have time to love them, I just haven't gotten there yet.

Never played P1 or either of the P2 games and know basically nothing about them, but for the latter three:

 

I think P3P is my favorite experience because it felt like the tighest story (it never really loses momentum the way P4 and P5 do for me, especially P4) and it has replayability bonus due to the male and female protags having different S. Links. Minako's definitely the superior experience of the two, though I would recommend doing male protagonist first (which is what I did so. It may be why I prefer this way).

 

But enjoyment-wise, P5's awesome, and it felt really easy to connect to the characters. And it has the best gameplay as well, really.

 

So it's really between P3P and P5 for me. It's funny that I don't care that much for P4 when it was my first, but... I don't know. Not the biggest fan of that one, is all.

4, so far. I haven't started 5 yet (will do shortly) but I loved 4's characters way more than I did 3's. They meant a lot more at the end. I would agree that 3 has a more focused plot overall, but 4 was far more enjoyable for me.

I haven't played P1 or P2 so I can't say anything about those.

Currently, I've always loved Persona 3 FES. It was my first Persona game other than the P4 spin off and fell in love with it a bit later. After I got the sequel to one of the spin offs (it was the Arena Ultimax), I found out the villain to P4 and P3 (sorta). I was so mad that I spoiled myself for 3 so I went back and went through it. It was so much fun later in the game and related to them a lot more. I haven't done the Answer portion since I'm not mentally prepared for the hard-only mode (I played it on Easy). 

For Persona 4, I tried playing through it before losing interest in the story. I knew the villain and it wasn't too much fun other than the better gameplay mechanics. I'll try going back to it later, I played the original since the Golden version wasn't on the PSN.

5 I'm not going to say anything until I finish it. So far I'm really addicted to it

I've only played 3, 4 and 5 and P5 by far blows the other two out of the water imo.

 

Haven't played 3 in many years but I remember feeling zero attachment to any of the characters and abhorring Tartarus. I've tried to play through 4 like three times, and I can just never bring myself to finish it- I absolutely hate almost every character in that game, it drives me mad. Just about everyone is either a jerk or an idiot or both. The immaturity factor isn't charming to me, it's just obnoxious and unlikable (seriously, firetruck Yousuke for all the shit he dragged me into) and the main story really isn't compelling enough to keep me interested (especially since I got spoiled about who the true villain is, a twist I think is really not very good).

 

P5 nails just about everything the other two games failed on for me; almost every character is likable and interesting, a fascinating and interesting plot, super tight gameplay mechanics that are easy to pick up on, Mementos works a thousand times better than Tartarus or revisiting dungeons, and I personally am all about the jazz/funk music. I've dumped 100+ hours into it in the last two weeks and I'm so willing to dump many more for NG+.

This is literally the only saving grace P4 has for me. Naoto is Waifu Prime and I'll die an honorable death defending that statement.

I'd say my favorite so far is most definitely Persona 5 BUT i still hold Persona 3 FES in high regard because its what got me into the franchise
