Theory: "13 vs 7" turns into "10 vs 10"

Posted
There's something that bothers me the most about Kingdom Hearts III. It's clear that the final of the game will involve the 13 Darkness vs the 7 Lights. But, why it has to be this way? I mean, this is really unfair for the "balance" between Light and Darkness to be achieved. In this battle, it means 6 of the Lights will have to battle 2 Darkness at the same time, while the "Leaders" of both sides fight each other (meaning Sora vs Master Xehanort). So, how about if things change in the last second in a way that Xehanort couldn't predict?

We already have 10 members of the 13 Darkness, leaving 3 members to discover. There are not many candidates to cover those places: one could be Sora's Heartless (the digital being from Coded), another one could be Demyx (although he's a moron) and another one could be the Anti-Black Coat (to command the Nightmare Dream Eaters). There are some rumors saying that the final members could actually be Terra, Aqua and Ventus, somehow. (The recent scene with Aqua could confirm it).

So, if this part is true, how about if, during the last battle, the original trio (Terra, Aqua and Ventus) are "purified" from Xehanort's influence and switch sides to Sora's Lights? That would turn into a more "balanced" battle of 10 vs 10. Don't you think?

I can only answer this. The reason is because, the X-blade was shattered among 20 pieces. 7 of light and 13 of darkness. Xehanort is trying to forge the X-Blade by the two sides 7 Guardians of Lights and 13 Seeker of Darknesses clashing against each other. Sorry if I'm rushing to answer.

Yes, I know this. What I mean is that Sora is hardly someone who is going to play into his enemies' game. So, I wouldn't be surprised if Sora tries to break the rules and act in a different way from Xehanort's plans. He could try to recruit even more Lights to fight the 13 Darkness. Another alternative for the battle is that Sora will recruit 13 Lights to match Xehanort's Darkness, and I think we have enough characters to reach the number 13.

I do agree with you that Sora and his friends may try something to catch Master Xehanort off guard, but I think that Master Xehanort is too prepared to allow something like that to happen.  True, he doesn't know everything that is going to happen, as he even stated himself.  However, I think that it would be really stupid of him to not anticipate something like this.  If Sora and his friends try something that goes against Master Xehanort's plan, he probably has a backup plan or two.  I think that it was explained why any attempt to prevent a clash between seven lights and thirteen darknesses will probably end in failure in Dream Drop Distance's secret ending:

Master Yen Sid: "Thus, even if we deliberately avoid finding our seven lights to avert another Keyblade War, Xehanort will still target the seven princesses in order to forge the χ-Blade."

King Mickey: "So...there's gonna be a clash between seven lights and thirteen darknesses...and there's nothing we can do to avoid triggering the Keyblade War?"

Master Yen Sid: "To protect the seven pure hearts, we will need seven lights strong enough to stand against the thirteen darknesses."

Sorry about that.  Maybe it could be possible for Sora to do that.

I was just following through the whole X-blade shattering into 20 pieces and in order for it to be forged, the 7 has to clash against the 13 or the 13 will go after the 7 new princesses if the 7 guardians don't fight.

The thing is not about Sora avoiding the conflict. Even knowing that's what the enemy want, there's no other way to stop Master Xehanort than facing him. Sora knows he has to battle Master Xehanort, but he could not do it in the way Xehanort desires. The key for this could be Sora's most important person: Kairi. Think about it, Kairi is both, a Princess of Heart (in both generations) and a Guardian of Light. Gathering Kairi with the six other members of one group and the six other members of the other group, what do we have? 13 LIGHTS!!! Of course, I don't mean the other Princess of Heart will fight alongside Sora's team, but Kairi's power could allow "six chosen warriors" to receive the power of the other Princesses in battle (in the form of Keyblades representing those princesses).

I know that it's not about Sora avoiding the conflict.  The reason why I included those quotes was because Master Yen Sid and King Mickey were basically saying that, no matter what they do, Master Xehanort will find a way for seven lights to clash with thirteen darknesses.  So, even if they try to add more lights to their numbers, Master Xehanort will find another way to achieve what he's after.

Whilst what you are saying is interesting and if one pays attention to the Chess Scene and Chi scene where the second Keyblade war is alluded to, more than 7 characters appear. However, whilst the Chess Scene did eventually reveal Vanities, Luxord and larxene being darknesses I still think the Eraqus' pieces are ambiguous. Also going back to the Chi scene, whilst it is plausible to have 9 GoLs, I also assumed that the extra two people were Donald and Goofy, whom I would expect what be around to fight and thus not have an impact on the balance.

Also, as has been suggested Xehanort has other options- he has this 'new pure hearts' group, until further information the 'Original seven princesses' and even if the GoLs added people, he'd still have the necessary numbers to recreate the X-Blade. Carrying on, you cannot change what is fated to happen and it seems inevitable that the 13 will fight the 7 (Plus DnG)

Look no matter how many counter arguments you will find, it's not about what Sora does, but what Xehanort does. He will succeed in causing the X-Blade to reconstruct and he will succeed in causing another Keyblade War just to do this. It doesn't matter how he gets it done, as long as he is able to do it. I mean, it's Xehanort, he literally has never failed in doing anything he has attempted. Yes he gets hit with some setbacks, like losing a chance at one of his 13 Darknesses, but he'll still have 13 Darknesses ready to face 7 Lights. Otherwise, they're already attempting to collect the 7 Princesses so they're gonna have Plan B ready as well. We already know 4 of the 7 as well, having Nomura confirm Anna, Elsa, Rapunzel, and Kairi as part of the new 7. Kairi is both a Princess and a Light, so she's a defining factor either way you look at it. She's either gonna get captured and used with the 7 princess (which would be loads of bs) or she will take part in the next Keyblade War and benefit Xehanort's plan to forge the X-Blade through battle.

Well technically Elsa, Anna, and Rapunzel are being targeted as lights, but yeah they will most likely be lights. Kairi being captured yet again would be bull though. They already did that twice.

They're being targeted as the new Princesses of Hearts and Nomura confirmed the 4 of them were part of the new 7 in an interview.

Being targeted does not mean they are Princesses of Heart. Wendy was targeted in the first game and ended up not being one. I'm pretty sure all of them will be though, it's just not confirmed.

Well, I update my theory by saying the list of potential "13 Lights" who could face the 13 Darkness, something Xehanort may not have anticipaded.

1º) The main ones are these:

+ Sora, Riku and Kairi; the main characters.

+ Ventus, Terra and Aqua; the original trio.

+ Mickey, who joins the "past" and the "future".

2º) The other Lights could be:

+ Roxas, Lea and Namine.

+ Data-Sora (from Coded), Repliku* and Namine (since she's part of Kairi, maybe she will learn to fight too).

One detail, these groups should be a little different.

+ Data-Sora, Repliku* and Xion (the three of them are replicas).

+ Roxas, Lea and Namine (the three of them existed temporally as Nobodies).
