ah, okay, here's context.. Paradigm Shifts are a main component of the FFXIII gameplay. It's a system that encourages more thinking up strategy while in battle, as opposed to prior(though, you do set up your paradigms prior to battle).

Paradigms are the setup of your classes/roles in the game... Shift refers tot eh act of going to one setup, to another

let's say you have Com(Main atk), Rav(Your magic caster),and Med(Healer) in one setup.. you can then maybe shift to Com, Com, Rav, and so on
