I don't think anyone could accuse KH of being "typical shonen". It was always a little different

And then you have Kh3 which is basically a bunch of tropes layered on the most basic of narratives

Yeah, but with 3D the shone tropes started coming into effect

For a game that was almost universally hated its surprising how much kh3 took from DDD

And then KH3 came in and gave "search for power you have no ide how to obtain", "protagonist is dumb and don't know shit", "characters all suffer almost death syndrome and have to recover from the purgatory", "damsel in distress becomes damsel in fridgeing", and my favorite, "villain gets redeemed last second".

It's always been a shonen type of series from the start. Like Soras power is literally power of friendship, a shonen trope that's used a lot. Or how about when Sora defeated Ansem by saying Kingdom Hearts is light....when it's not. Or when Sora and Riku were trapped in the realm of darkness and a letter from kairi magically brought them back. They are some of the shonen tropes since KHs inception

But that's not really a bad thing either

It fits kingdom hearts for the series it is

I guess we can talk and talk and talk about it as much as we want but it all leads back to Nomura not being able to, for whatever reason, tell KH3's story the way he wanted

Yeah, tropes are not a bad thing, it's more about how you use it

Hell, KH being shonen is a big reason I liked this from the start

I'm not saying it had no shonen, but it was more understated

ppl might disagree with me but I think that KH in general should stop to overexplain certain parts of the story and keep it simple like in KH1

The say I see it is that in KH1 the tropes are part of the plot and there's more going on both in the surface and thematically, while in KH3 the story has absolutely no depth and the plot is just trope after trope stringed together to just try and get a narrative off the ground.

The exposition was unnecessary

The problem with the exposition is it being obligatory, if it was optional it would've been fine.

Like in DDD, should have done it like that

In the past I completely understand that argument, because we didn't have any remixes

In fact I was making that argument

But by KH3, we had ps 3 collections AND ps4 collections, and anyone who was new to KH shouldn't needed to be handheld for KH3. there was no excuse by then

The only plot that happened between Disney worlds were in those cutscenes

And at least like 70% of those were exposition

KH3 taught me a very important lesson:

I guess it depends when they would have delayed it, in my opinion they should have delayed the game as soon as the engine switch occurred, but we know now that the engine switch didn't change the internal release window at all

If they delayed it then it probably would have been a better overall product

But sadly many things would have stayed the same because of the way the game was written from the ground up

That's the thing, just looking at the ultimania it seems like a ton of concepts were ditched at the switch
