I think he would've realized he depended so heavily on Donald and Goofy, that he needed to do this on his own, if only to prove to himself that he could do it on his own

as for Disney in KH4
they have a lot of pixar films that could easily work and do just right as it did in KH1 and KH2 so long as Disney doesnt go copyright crazy and leave room for Square flare in them

like see kh2 for instance when they're surrounded by nobodies with donald and goofy, and Sora is questioning what he would do without his keyblade

which is an extension of kh1 where he does lose the keyblade, and is left almost helpless

i think kh3 was a sort of an extension of that
