There is a version of Rapunzel where Mother gothel "handles" rapunzel in a very messed up way, and the prince cuts his own eyes out and has to find his way to rapunzel by following her hair trail

I was read that version as a kid

Sleepy Beauty and Snow White are also super messed up

There is an insane amount of being pierced by thorns in kid's stories

I was always traumatised by this story about a robin or some kind of bird with a thorn in its heart

how about the one where the kid wouldn't stop sucking his thumbs so the weird scissor monster comes in and cuts both his thumbs off?
