I absolutely love all of the positive competitive aspects of the game

And honestly, if the idea of all the pokemon not being it truly is detrimental to someone for the experience, then it's best not to get the game as well, that'll likely taint it for you

What you're saying is something that's been standard for 22 years

Of course it's detrimental

Even if you don't feel it is, it is bad for pokemon in general, just look at all the hubbub it caused

I can point you to other series that are all about collecting critters and the like.. it's not detrimental to them because they don't have all of their roster

to me, not having all the pokemon in is weird because of the fact that they have had ALL pokemon in every game since gen 2

and yet, looking at digimon, it has a very small number of its roster and yet the games' quality has been good

It's rather hilarious it happened on the most powerful console the series has been on

Most RPGs don't have to worry about needing over... 1000+ diferent pokemon
