That's where a part of my issue lies. If there's free will, why are they giving you the choice of freaking hell and a way to not end up there is to follow strict rules. If a person has done good deeds their whole life but never been religious and still end up in hell, is that really free will then? But that's also where the subjectivity of it comes in, we don't know if there's an after life and thanks to that we don't know how the rules actually work if there is one.
