I do love the environments in DQ as well

I have honestly started to appreciate the english dubs a lot more after finding out about the cold reading thing

A lot of them still aren't great but man, it's rough for them

I always go with them anyway honestly. Majority of Japanese voices sound similar to me. Can't really differentiate

I have that issue with female japanese VA's

A lot of them go for the cutesy vibe and it just sounds way too familiar

That's really annoying, definitely

It always bothers me whenever a 15 year old + girl sounds like a child

I don't get how people enjoy Japanese dubs over English dubs most of the time

I can get that with a few characters but there are so many of them that it's a bit baffling

Because sadly, the english dubs aren't really great for a lot of them.

But a big reason seems to be the direction they get isn't great

Along with the script having to fit a certain scene for so many words

I can see why people prefer Japanese dubs. If you can differentiate the voices it's far better overall. They also have more emotion.

They can't really write around that

Japanese VAs usually go all out when showing emotion, it makes the more emotional parts really stand out

Most of the time I don't even have too much problem with English dubs, I just find it difficult to really accept the VA voice as the character's voice

Whenever I hear an English dub my mind immediately jumps to "person in the studio doing a voice"

I think a lot of the voices do fit the character, it's just the delivery of the lines that feel off
